Additional Information
Fred Fairchild had more than 30 years of industry experience in
the design, construction, operation and management of feed, flour,
and dry corn milling facilities, grain storage, seed cleaning and
pet food plants prior to joining the K-State faculty.
Domestic industry experience includes design, construction, start
up of "state-of-the-art" dry corn mill; design and construction
of large and small feed mills; management of maintenance and engineering
for grain processing facilities; and project engineer for "state-of'-the-art"
dry pet food facility. International industry experience includes
preparation of proposals, negotiations and sales of facilities and
equipment for projects in Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and Peoples' Republic
of China. Prior to coming to Kansas State, Professor Fairchild was
Vice President-Engineering for Todd and Sargent, Inc., Ames IA.
Professor Fairchild joined the Department of Grain Science and Industry
at Kansas State University in 1994. He teaches 4 different classes,
advises students, and is the Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator
for the department’s 3 degree programs. As a university Faculty
Senator, he is past chair of the Academic Affairs Committee. Additionally,
he is overseeing the construction of a new $65 million 5-building
complex for the department.
Professor Fairchild is a recognized and respected domestic and international
consultant, author and speaker for feed and flour milling projects,
meetings, seminars, and short courses. He has authored numerous
book chapters, papers and publications for the feed milling, flour
milling, and pet food manufacturing industries. He has worked in
the United States, Turkey, Egypt, People’s Republic of China,
Denmark, Norway and South Korea.
