Announcing a hot new inter-institutional program data management tool The K-State Institute for Academic Alliances (IAA) announces the release of ExpanSIS, a multi-institution student information system. Inter-institutional academic programs and course-sharing alliances need instantaneous and reliable access to shared course and student data. ExpanSIS is a high-powered, web-based solution for easily meeting course and student data requirements to successfully implement and sustain collaborative programs. ExpanSIS does not require special software or hardware. Data is transmitted over a secure Internet connection. ExpanSIS system highlights:
Security and student privacy rights: ExpanSIS is a secure web-based system. To maintain confidentiality, personnel who need access to ExpanSIS must agree to an acceptable use policy. Students sign an acknowledgement form granting permission for partner institutions to share their information on a need-to-know basis. ExpanSIS development and utilization: ExpanSIS replaces an older system that was developed and used by the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA). IAA staff helped develop both the earlier version and ExpanSIS. Three years’ experience with the old system, close interaction with K-State computer programmers, and extensive testing has resulted in the highly improved ExpanSIS system. ExpanSIS was launched in July 2006, and is currently managing five Great Plains IDEA inter-institutional graduate programs that span 11 states.
