Great Plains IDEA DVD Discussion Questions (Note: DVD is 18 minutes in length)

You have just viewed a model for academic collaboration.

We suggest you start by discussing the benefits of participating in a collaborative program such as this. In what ways would this strategy allow your institution to do new things? How might it better position your institution in the market place and meet the needs of current and prospective students?

How could the Great Plains IDEA model be adapted to implement an inter-institutional program at your institution? What steps would it take to make this idea work on you campus?

Academic Approval
What would the approval process at your institution look like for a collaborative program? What steps would be required to cross list courses taught by another institution(s)?

Financing, Pricing, and Transfer of Funds
The collaboration you viewed seemed to work best with a common price. What are the issues you should discuss in regard to price? How would your institution facilitate the transfer of funds to the teaching institution?

Student Tracking
A database is available that will allow you to track student enrollments over multiple campuses. Registrars, academic advisors and campus coordinators will access this database. What student information do you need from other institutions in order to allow their students electronic access to your classes?

Who can best represent and make critical decisions for your institution in regard to academic policy, financial pricing, student information services and distance learning?
