PROJECT: The Nursing Education Xchange: Partnering to Increase the Capacity of Nursing PhD Programs (NEXus)
2004-2007 U.S. Department of Education, Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) Comprehensive Grant

Project Abstract
The Western Institute of Nursing (WIN) is responding to the critical need to increase the capacity of doctoral nursing programs in the region through the NEXus project with assistance from: Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education’s (WICHE) Northwest Educational Outreach Network (NEON) and Kansas State University’s Institute for Academic Alliances.

Project objectives are to:
1. Increase academic capacity by opening registration to online courses offered by one School of Nursing to students from partner Schools of Nursing
2. Address barriers to course enrollment across multiple institutions through inter-institutional agreements
3. Increase academic breadth and quality by allowing SONs to supplement their academic offerings through sharing of courses, giving students a wider array of high quality course options
4. Develop a Web site that provides pertinent information about available courses and a forum for students and faculty to share information on a variety of research and academic subjects.
