The Institute was formally approved by Kansas State University officials in March 2004. Maes and Moxley directed the 2000-2004 U.S. Department of Education FIPSE LAAP project, “A National Model for Inter-institutional Post-baccalaureate Distance Education Programs.” Project outcomes included models for alliance and program development, agreements, policies, and procedures. The Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA), and their Family Financial Planning graduate program were model test beds. Many current Institute consultants became collaboration experts through their participation in this project. In 2003, the Institute was awarded a three-year U.S. Department of Education FIPSE Comprehensive dissemination grant to further develop, test, and refine inter-institutional program models with four diverse higher education consortia. Higher education institutions and organizations contract with the Institute to facilitate inter-institutional academic program initiatives. Institute services are included in grant applications to fund a diversity of new inter-institutional academic program initiatives. |
