Space Shuttle Images of Research Areas in Kansas.

 

    

STS040-080-064.  Junction City and Manhattan, Kansas, U.S.A. June 1991.   The agricultural lands of the Smoky Hill River Valley and the green grasslands of the Flint Hills region of central Kansas can be seen in this west-northwest-looking, low-oblique photograph.

The Kansas River Valley and Manhattan are apparent in this east-looking, low-oblique photograph. Manhattan (center of photograph) sits at the confluence of the south-flowing Big Blue River and the east-flowing Kansas River.  Visible are Tuttle Creek Reservoir north of Manhattan and the northern extension of the grass-covered, rolling terrain of the Flint Hills to the south.
