Position Description Writing and Fair Labor Standards Act
(FLSA) Overview
Workshop on December 19, 2001, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 Noon, A-Wing Basement
Training Room in Edwards Hall.
This workshop is open to all classified and unclassified employees who have an interest in the classification process. The material covered will increase your knowledge of the Civil Service Classification System, provide in-depth information on the Position Description, its purposes, completion and usage, and unlock the mysteries of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
The workshop will be presented by the staff in Classification Services. This workshop covers material provided in Supervisory Training and Personnel Specialist Training and is open to all employees.
Pre-registration is required. Contact Employee Relations & Training at (785) 532-6818 or e-mail training@ksu.edu to register. When registering by e-mail, please include your name, department, employee ID number, course title, and course date.
Note: Obtain any necessary departmental approvals prior to enrolling. We must have a minimum of five registered to hold workshop. Registrants will be notified if cancellation is necessary.

(GTL)
The moratorium on the employer's contribution for
KPERS and Regents
Members Life & Disability ends with the current pay period. Effective
with the pay period 12/9/01-12/22/01, paid 1/4/02, employer
contributions are reinstated at the rate of 0.60%.

Classified Cost of Living Allowances Effective
12-09-01
Each classified employee should receive a 1.5% Cost of Living
Allowance (COLA) effective with their 1/4/02 paycheck.
December 9, 2001
effective dated rows with an action/reason of PAY/COL have been inserted
in HRIS, for
all classified employees, with the exception of employees
on an unpaid leave of absence. Listings are being mailed to departments
indicating the new salary rates effective 12-9-01. The new payrate
summary is available at http://www.ksu.edu/hr/infomgmt/index.html
then click on Classified Employment Summary. As a reminder, step movement
has been suspended for FY 2002.

Unclassified Mid Year Salary
Increases
Mid year salary increases for 12 and 9-month unclassified
personnel
have been updated in the Human Resource Information System
(HRIS). New
pay change rows effective 12-9-01 (12-month) and 12-23-01 (9-month) have
been inserted based on information that major administrative units and
designated departments keyed into the Unclassified Pay Rate Change Panel
in HRIS for FY 2002. Salary listings
providing the old or current
biweekly salary in HRIS and the new salary will be mailed to major
administrative units on or about December 10, 2001 for verification.

Additional State Holiday
The Governor announced today that he has designated Monday, December 24,
2001 as an additional state holiday for calendar year 2001. The published
HRIS
schedule for December, 2001 will remain the same except that there
will be no preliminary pay-calcs on Monday, December 24. If this presents
a hardship, please contact your Information Management Liaison immediately. Although not expected, the State of Kansas may alter their payroll schedules, which may affect ours. We will let you know if any future schedule changes are needed.
Additionally, we will be deleting time sheets tonight for the pay period ending January 5, 2002 and recreating them with the December 24th holiday inserted. If you have questions or concerns please call your Information Management Liaison.
