Classified Increases Effective June 17, 2007
All classified employees will receive a general increase of approximately 2% effective June 17, 2007. An effective dated row of June 17, 2007 will be inserted into HRIS Job Data shortly after payroll is completed for pay period ending June 16, 2007. Our office will notify you once the rows have been inserted in Job Data.

Classified Longevity Bonus Increase
Effective June 17, 2007 the amount of the longevity bonus will increase from $40 per year to $50 per year of service. The maximum longevity bonus amount has also increased from $1000 for 25 or more years of service to $1250 for 25 or more years of service. Those employees with service dates falling between June 17th and June 30th will be the first to see this increased bonus amount.

Classified Pay Grade Changes Effective June 17, 2007
In addition to the classified cost-of –living adjustment, there will be a movement on the pay scale for job classes identified as 25% below average market pay according to the Salary Survey Report conducted by the Hay Group. Those designated job classes may be found by viewing Executive Directive 07-376 http://www.da.ks.gov/ps/subject/arc/memos/execdirective/ED07_376.pdf. Employees in the job classes affected will be moved up one pay grade on the salary scale. They will remain at the step they are on prior to the movement to the higher grade. (Example: A Custodial Specialist on Grade 11/Step 8 will move to Grade 12/Step 8 with this movement.)

An effective dated row of June 17, 2007 will be inserted in HRIS Job Data shortly after payroll is completed for pay period ending June 16, 2007. Our office will notify you once the rows have been inserted in Job Data.

June 29, 2007 Paycheck
The June 29, 2007 paycheck is the third paycheck in the month. Therefore, premiums for group health insurance, KPERS optional group life insurance, TEA life insurance and contributions to the KanElect flexible spending accounts will not be deducted from this paycheck. Additionally, 12-month unclassified employees do not earn an 8-hour vacation day for the pay period June 3, 2007 through June 16, 2007, paid June 29, 2007. Also, unclassified employees appointed to less than 12-month non-instructional positions do not earn vacation leave for this same pay period.

One-time Classified Bonus Payment in December
Executive Directive No. 07-376 authorizes a bonus of $860 to each full-time classified employee in a regular position whose most recent performance review is “meets expectations” or better. The amount of this bonus will be proportionally reduced for less than full-time employees. The bonus will be paid on December 14, 2007.

Our office has not received specific guidelines on this one time bonus payment. You may expect further details when we receive them. Please contact your HR liaison with questions or concerns at (785) 532-6277.

Reminder Regarding Leave Accruals for Unclassified Employees
This is a reminder that unclassified employees did not earn vacation leave for pay periods ending 5/19/07 or 6/2/07. In addition, they will not earn vacation leave for pay period ending June 16, 2007.

The maximum annual leave accrual limit is 22 days (176 Hours) per fiscal year. This year those unclassified appointed full-time at the beginning of the 2007 fiscal year reached their maximum accrual limit during the pay period ending 5/5/07. Unclassified exempt employees appointed after the beginning of the fiscal year or appointed part-time will earn vacation leave as long as they do not exceed the 22-day maximum. There will be no unclassified employee who earns vacation leave during pay period ending 6/16/07 since it is a third paycheck.

Revised HRIS Payroll Funding Timelines
The FY2008 rows have been added to the payroll funding distribution pages. A 06/17/07 effective-dated row was automatically inserted into each level of funding to reflect the new fiscal year projects.

Workers’ Compensation Medical Care
Please remind your department employees that the state has contracts with Mercy Regional Health Center for workers’ compensation related injuries or illnesses. Employees working in Manhattan or the surrounding area are to seek medical care as follows:

  1. Life threatening injury or illness – call 911 or report directly to the Emergency Room – Mercy Regional Health Center, 1823 College Avenue.
  2. Non-life threatening injury or illness – treated at Occupational Health-Mercy West, 315 Seth Child Road, from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. For non-life threatening injuries or illnesses occurring on other days of the week or times of day, call the 24-hour Occupation Health Hot Line at (785) 323-6000 or toll free at (866) 323-6003.
