Pending approval of the Executive Directive, specified job classes in the classified service will receive a market adjustment effective 6/14/09. This adjustment will result in a salary increase for these employees. There will be changes to pay grade and/or steps, depending on the employee.s job class. The affected job classes are listed on the following web site: http://www.da.ks.gov/newpayplans/ Human Resources will process these changes to position and job data in HRIS.
There will be no cost-of-living adjustment for classified employees in fiscal year 2010.
At the present time, HR staff continues to identify those employees affected by the market adjustments. We will send out further communication on these employees within the next couple of weeks.

In June 2008, the Kansas Board of Regents approved new leave accrual rates for non-exempt and exempt classified employees. The implementation of these changes is taking place in two phases.
The second phase goes into effect on June 14, 2009, the beginning of the first pay period in fiscal year 2010. Employees with more than five years, but less than 10 years of service, will earn 5.5 hours of annual leave per pay period when in pay status for 80 hours. Non-exempt classified employees who report fewer than 80 hours in a pay period shall earn annual leave on a prorated basis.
Annual leave accrual for employees with less than five years of service remains unchanged.
The first phase was effective June 15, 2008. At that time, employees with more than 10 years of service began earning 6.7 hours of annual leave per pay period when in pay status for 80 hours. The distinction between 10 and 15 years of service was removed at that time.
Additional information, including the prorated accrual chart, will be available soon in a revised Classified Employee Leaves PPM 4860.
Unclassified employees did not accrue vacation leave for pay period ending 5/16/09 because this paycheck (dated 5/29/09) is the third paycheck in the month of May. The third paycheck in a month does not accrue vacation leave for unclassified employees.
In addition, unclassified employees who have already earned 22 days (176 hours) will not accrue vacation leave for pay periods ending 5/30/09 and 6/13/09. These are the last two pay periods in the fiscal year and unclassified employees are only allowed to earn 22 days (176 hours) in a fiscal year. Only those unclassified employees who have not earned 22 days (176 hours) in the fiscal year will accrue vacation leave these two pay periods - these would be those employees on part-time appointments or who were appointed mid-year.
Please remind unclassified employees of these three consecutive pay periods when they will not be accumulating vacation leave. Contact your HR liaison with questions at (785)532-6277.
KSU PPM Chapter 4870 has been revised to reflect changes to the tuition assistance program including elimination of the one-year employment-waiting period, clarification on eligibility, and the elimination of associated work-release time for classes. These changes reflect the increased interest in the program once federal regulations allowed the inclusion of graduate level courses and it became possible to add unclassified employees several years ago. In addition, the application process has been simplified.
The new application is available on the HR website under Benefits/Tuition Assistance. Applications should now be submitted directly to Student Financial Assistance.
Just a reminder that the K-State's minimum wage for employees will increase to $7.25 per hour effective with the 2010 fiscal year. A June 14, 2009 effective dated row will automatically be inserted in HRIS by the Division of Human Resources for those below the new K-State minimum wage. Notice will be sent to departments when HRIS has been updated.

This is a reminder that the revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 (Rev. 02/02/09) issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) went into effect April 3, 2009. The revised form must be used for all rehires and new hires as of April 3, 2009. No other versions will be accepted. The revised form is available on the HR Forms page at http://www.k-state.edu/hr/forms/I-9.pdf (pdf). This is a reminder that the PER-15, KSU Foreign National Tax Information form http://www.k-state.edu/hr/forms/per15.pdf (pdf) is required for Foreign National employee hires. A copy of the employee's, I-94 form "Arrival and Departure Record", U.S. Visa and I-20, DS-2019, or I-797 should also be attached. The information on these documents is used to determine the correct tax status of the employee. Additional information on Nonresident alien employment may also be found at http://www.k-state.edu/hr/forms/nraforms.html.
