Background Check Policy Change

Effective immediately, any hourly student employee transferring to a graduate, classified or unclassified position will require a background check prior to being hired in those positions. This is a change from previous requirements.

Also remember that only Extension Agent and Extension Intern positions will have driving records checked, no other positions have been authorized for this process.

Under-Market Classified Salary Increases

The Kansas Legislature approved the fourth year for under-market pay increases for classified employees, which were given to employees in various classifications in FY 2009, FY 2010 and FY 2011.

As in previous years, a pay increase will be given for employees in classifications which are the most underpaid compared to market rates and will likely include some classifications from all of the three employee groups as defined in the State of Kansas New Pay Plan.

According to staff members in the Kansas Department of Administration they are finalizing recommendations for the classifications and amounts for the increases to be presented to the State Employee Compensation Oversight Commission for approval. The final announcement will be made by an executive directive. This entire process may take several weeks. Under-market increases are expected to be effective with the beginning of the fiscal year, which is June 10 and paid July 6, but there is a strong possibility we will not receive the executive directive in time to process for that paycheck. The details of the executive directive will be shared by the K-State Division of Human Resources when it becomes available. At this time we do not have any indication of classifications that may be included in the increases.

HRIS Department Table

Department personnel specialists have VIEW access to the Department Table in HRIS. This access has been provided to ensure the Manager Position and KEAS Access Position(s) located within this table are current. The Manager Position identifies the unit head and is now being used by the Conflict of Interest Form Routing Process and the KEAS Access Position(s) are being used to designate employees/positions who have access to grant e-mail privileges and who receive a copy of the Welcome to K-State e-mail message for new employees.
