Classified Salary Increases and Performance Reviews
The Division of Human Resources is preparing for classified employee salary increases effective in June and September.  Our office has not received specific instructions from the Department of Administration; however, we are being proactive in preparation of the step movement.

The cost-of-living increase will be a 1.5% increase for all classified employees effective June 18, 2006.  The step movement will be a single 2.5% pay step movement effective 09/10/06 for each employee in the classified service with a current performance review rating higher than “below expectations.”  In addition, unclassified employees will receive increases effective June 18, 2006 for 12-month employees and August 13, 2006 for 9-month employees.

Our office is asking departments to review their classified performance review listings carefully for reviews that may be overdue.  It is important to identify employees who might be affected and notify their supervisors of possible repercussions to the employee.  We encourage all personnel specialists to run the “Employee Performance Review Report”.  This report is used to view the classified performance reviews due for a selected duration within a selected department or major administrative unit/college. It will identify those who have an upcoming review due date and/or those that are overdue.  For instructions on how to run this report, please refer to the HR web site: http://www.k-state.edu/hr/hris/hris-reports.html#oth.

The Division of Human Resources will advise departments fully once specific details are received regarding the cost-of-living increase and pay step movement.  Please contact Alma Deutsch at (785) 532-1448 or Kristi Fronce at (785) 532-1889 with questions or concerns regarding employee performance reviews.  Please contact your HR liaison with questions regarding salary increases.

Time and Leave Entry for Pay Period Ending 5/20/06
Please be advised that the pay period ending 5/20/06 is a shortened pay period because of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.  All time and leave entry and correction must be completed by Tuesday, May 23rd at noon.  Human Resources staff will process payroll on Wednesday instead of Thursday.  There will be HRIS View Only access on Wednesday, May 24th.

Please contact your HR liaison at (785) 532-6277 with questions or concerns.  Thank you!

Fiscal Year End Reminders
Leave accruals – 12 month unclassified employees who have held positions for the full fiscal year will not earn leave for pay periods ending 5-20-06 and 6-3-06.   In addition, all 12 month unclassified employees will not accrue leave for the pay period ending 6-17-06, as this will be the third pay check in June.

The June 30, 2006 pay check is the third pay check in the month.  Therefore, premiums for group health insurance, KPERS optional group life insurance, TEA life insurance and contributions to the KanElect flexible spending accounts will not be deducted from this third pay check.

Summer double deductions end with the pay check dated 5-19-06.

The last pay check of the academic year for 9 month employees will be the check dated 6-02-06.  The regular group health insurance premium will be deducted from this check.

Fiscal year 2007 funding rows will be automatically inserted on June 8th, with an effective date of 6-18-06.

The final day to submit transfer of payrolls to Human Resources for fiscal year 2006 is June 9, 2006.

Remember to encumber funds if necessary, for any recent advertising cost for classified recruitments done in FY 06.  Please contact Cheryl Grice with questions at (785) 532-1899.

Questions should be addressed to the Division of Human Resources at (785) 532-6277.

Revised Personnel Transaction Forms
Due to a recent review of the Board of Regents (BOR) Spoken English Language Competency for Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants policy, the classified and unclassified Appointment Form (PER-38), Graduate Student Appointment Form (PER-41) and Faculty and GTA Spoken English Competency Assessment Sheet (PER-20) along with instructions have been revised.   The old versions of these forms are no longer available on our forms page.  If you are using a saved copy of the old version, please update them and begin using the new versions of these transaction forms.

Hourly Student On Campus Work Permits for Summer Semester
Non-resident hourly student employees must have a 2006 summer On Campus Work permit to work beyond June 3, 2006.   This includes current student employees as well as rehires and new hires.   The International Student Center will begin issuing hourly student summer work permits on June 5, 2006.

Additionally, if a student on a graduate assistantship transfers to an hourly student appointment within the same department, an hourly student work permit would not be required if the current graduate student work permit is still valid.  This is only valid for the summer.  Any other time a work permit is required for each type of appointment.

HRIS Tip
On the HRIS home page, above the main menu items, there is a search box with a “Go” button.  This search box is designed to assist in locating pages in HRIS.  Type a key word(s) in the search box and select “Go.”  A list of HRIS pages will appear in which the key word(s) appear.  Examples:  CWSP or Position Listing or Funding or Leave Accruals.  Another option to finding data is the document, Paths to HRIS Information:
