Revised Form I-9 In Effect Beginning April 3, 2009

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a reminder that the revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 (Rev. 02/02/09) goes into effect April 3, 2009. In addition they also updated the Handbook for Employers - Instructions for Completing Form I-9 (pdf) to reflect the requirements of the revised Form I-9.

The revised form should be used for new hires as of April 3, 2009. For more detailed information please refer to the Revised Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) memo at http://www.k-state.edu/hr/news/mem040309.pdf (pdf). Questions may be address to Frieda Beat (785) 532-1884 or your Human Resources, Payroll and Employee Data liaison at (785) 532-6277.

KSU Minimum Wage Increase

K-State's minimum wage for employees will increase to $7.25 per hour effective with the 2010 fiscal year. The Division of Human Resources will automate the insertion of hourly pay rate changes in HRIS to $7.25 effective June 14, 2009 for those below the new K-State minimum wage. Further details will be forthcoming closer to the effective date. The Federal minimum wage will increase to $7.25 effective July 24, 2009.

Summer Transaction Training

The Division of Human Resources will be offering one-on-one training sessions this year for personnel specialists who would like assistance with completing personnel transactions for summer. Information covered in the sessions will include:

  • Effective Dates and Submission Due Dates for Summer
  • Processing Funding Updates for Fiscal Year
  • Processing Hourly Student, Graduate Student and Unclassified Summer Transactions
  • Summer Benefits

Please note that this year we are requiring that all summer positions be a different temporary position number than the position the employee is on during the academic year. This includes those employees who are on a non-budgeted position during the year. Last year we allowed departments to use the same position number, as long as it was temporary. This resulted in significant funding issues, and therefore, we will require a different position number for the summer appointments.

Please contact Kristi Fronce (fronce@ksu.edu) or Connie Jordan (cjordan@ksu.edu) at (785)532-6277 to schedule a training session with HR staff or with questions regarding unclassified summer transactions.

Online Leave Request Form Change

The Leave Request for Hourly (Non-Exempt) Employees and the Leave Request for (Exempt) Faculty and Staff have been revised and will no longer require your K-State eID and password for access.

Instructions for completing the forms are available online:
