Form for Kansas Withholding Allowances (K-4)

Effective January 1, 2008 a Kansas Withholding Allowances (K-4) form must be completed by all new hires. This form must be completed in addition to the Federal Form W-4. Current employees submitting a new W-4 should also submit a K-4. Kansas withholding allowances will only be changed when a K-4 is received in the Division of Human Resources. The K-4 is available at http://www.k-state.edu/hr/forms/k-4.pdf.

2008 Withholding Exemption Renewals Due

Employees in your department who are currently claiming "Exempt" from federal and state income tax withholding are required to a complete new Form W-4 and Form K-4 to maintain that exemption for 2008. Please submit these forms to Human Resources as soon as possible, but no later than January 28, 2008. The current exempt status expires February 15, each year. If new forms are not received, the employee's tax status will be changed to Single with Zero exemptions on the February 8, 2008 paycheck per IRS regulations.

Employees may be eligible for the withholding tax exempt status if the following criteria are met:

  1. The employee incurred no federal income tax liability for 2007; and,
  2. The employee anticipates no federal income tax liability to be incurred for 2008.
