Tuition Assistance Program
Due to the overwhelming popularity and record response to the Tuition Assistance Program, all budgeted monies for FY 2003 have been spent. Therefore, no tuition assistance is available for the May 2003 intersession and Summer 2003 semester.

Questions should be addressed to Joe Younger, Division of Human Resources, at (785) 532-6277 or e-mail: BENADMIN@K-STATE.EDU.

KanElect Reminder
Please remind your department employees who participated in the KanElect program in 2002 that they have until March 31, 2003 to submit claims for any services occurring between January 1, 2002 and December 31, 2002. Claim forms are available at the following web site: http:www.ksu.edu/hr/forms/kanelect.pdf.

Questions should be directed to ASI at 1-800-366-4827.

Superior Vision Services
There has been some concern expressed regarding the availability of contract optometrists under the Superior Vision Services plan at Wal-Mart Vision Centers. The following information is intended to clarify this situation:

All Wal-Mart Vision Centers are contracted into the Superior Vision Services plan network. The associated optometrists, who are not Wal-Mart employees, must be contracted individually. Superior Vision Services has contacted all Wal-Mart associated optometrists in Kansas and will continue to promote the participation of those not yet in the network. Superior Vision Services cannot, however, guarantee that all of the associated optometrists will cooperate in this regard.

For information on specific situations, please contact the Superior Vision Services Customer Service center at 1-800-507-3800.

Please furnish this information to your department employees.

Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) Screening
During the annual health insurance open enrollment period in October 2002, employees were given the opportunity to elect to participate in the State of Kansas Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) program in order to receive a $5.00 per semi-monthly pay period deduction from their health insurance premium.

The HRA program consists of a health screening (cholesterol, glucose, and various biometric measures) and an on-line questionnaire assessing general health parameters and lifestyle behaviors.

The Division of Personnel Services for the State of Kansas has arranged for a mobile van to be on the KSU campus to conduct the Health Risk Appraisal (HRA) screening portion of this program, as follows:

January 28 - 31, 2003

February 3 - 7, 2003

February 10 - 13, 2003

The screening will be available from 7:00am - 1:00pm each day. The mobile van will be located in parking lot C1 - near the Recreational Services building.

To schedule an appointment for the HRA screening, please call toll free 1-800-778-8889 (Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm CST), as shown on the AKSESS website at: http://da.state.ks.us/aksess. Employees should check this website periodically for updates in the scheduling process. A schedule for other months and locations through June 2003 will be available after February 1, 2003.

Questions should be directed to Mr. Spud Kent at spud.kent@state.ks.us or by calling (785) 296-4084; or Ms. Cheryl Miller at cheryl.miller@state.ks.us or by calling (785) 296-4304.

GTA/GRA Health Insurance
As you hire or reappoint graduate teaching assistants and/or graduate research assistants for the Spring 2003 semester please advise each student about the available GTA/GRA health insurance plan. Persons appointed at least .5 FTE for the semester as a graduate teaching assistant or graduate research assistant are eligible to participate in the health insurance plan.

Graduate teaching assistants or graduate research assistants who receive a "renewal premium notice" from Student Resources are to return it, with the semester premium payment, to the Division of Human Resources by January 31, 2003.

A brochure describing the plan provisions and an enrollment card (including premium rates) are available at the following web site: www.studentresources.net.

Questions concerning this plan should be directed to Student Resources at 1-800-767-0700.

Delay in Implementation of Information Technology (IT) Class Structure Update
Due to the State's fiscal situation, the implementation of the IT Class Structure Update has been postponed. We appreciate the effort that departments have given to this study. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Judy Woellhof at 785 532-1869. Again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we make accommodations for the fiscal challenges ahead.
