Developing HRIS On-Line Skills (prerequisite for all other HRIS courses)

An introduction to the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) that will focus on how to sign-on/sign-off and navigate through the system pages. This course will be held in a computer lab and each participant will have access to a computer for completing activities presented in class. HRIS access and access forms will be provided and explained in detail. This course is a prerequisite for all other HRIS courses.

Prerequisite: Be able to use a web browser that supports HRIS

  • Portal Navigation (Menus, Folders, Transaction Pages)

Activities for Developing HRIS On-Line Skills

An activity-based course that will concentrate on locating/viewing information on-line and that will enhance skills needed to use HRIS.

This course will be held in a computer lab and each participant will have access to a computer for completing activities presented in class. Be prepared to use your eID and password in this session. 

Prerequisites: Be able to use a web browser that supports HRIS and attend the Developing HRIS On-Line Skills course

Establishing and Maintaining Payroll Funding Using HRIS

A course designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for maintaining department budget/funding using HRIS. Numerous on-line activities\scenarios will be included in this course to enable participants to maintain funding at the department level, position pool level, and position level. This course will be held in a computer lab and each participant will have access to a computer for completing activities presented in class.

Prerequisites: Be able to use a web browser that supports HRIS, attend Activities for Developing HRIS On-Line Skills (optional), attend Developing HRIS On-Line Skills

  • Defines effective-dated records (i.e., history, current, and future)
  • Provides biweekly payroll processing time-lines
  • Describes funding distribution pages and fields
  • Emphasis on budget levels (i.e., department, position pool, & position)
  • Using earnings codes, deduction codes, & tax codes
  • Entering effective-dated funding transactions on-line
Establishing and Maintaining Positions Using HRIS

A course to provide a training session for on-line users that will focus on how to use the HRIS to create and maintain positions. This course will be held in a computer lab and each participant will have access to a computer for completing activities presented in class. 

Prerequisites: Be able to use a web browser that supports HRIS, attend Activities for Developing HRIS On-Line Skills (optional), attend Developing HRIS On-Line Skills, attend Establishing and Maintaining Payroll Funding

  • Policy and procedures
  • Describes position types and position attributes
  • Explains relationship between position and employee
  • Explains how effective dates are used in position management
  • Describes Action/Reason codes used in position management
  • Adding new positions
  • Maintain and correct position data
  • Reuse positions
  • Attaching funding to a position
Maintaining Employee Data Using HRIS

To teach participants how to enter and maintain employee data. This on-line course will focus on how to use the HRIS to maintain university support staff and unclassified employee data (i.e. personal data, job data, and performance information). This course will be held in a computer lab and each participant will have access to a computer for completing activities presented in class.  

Prerequisites: Be able to use a web browser that supports HRIS, attend Activities for Developing HRIS On-Line Skills (optional), attend Developing HRIS On-Line Skills

  • Relationship between position management and job data
  • Describes Action/Reason codes
  • Hiring employees (i.e., university support staff and unclassified)
  • Maintain employee data, including separations
  • Maintain employee movement activities (i.e. promotions and transfers)
  • Maintain employee performance reviews
  • Unclassified salary increase process
Recording Time and Leave Information Using HRIS

An on-line course that enables the user to capture daily time and leave information using the HRIS. This course will be held in a computer lab and each participant will have access to a computer for completing activities presented in class.

Prerequisite:
Be able to use a web browser that supports HRIS, attend Developing HRIS On-Line Skills

  • Describes policies and procedures
  • Time and Leave time lines
  • Relationship between work and holiday schedules, position management, earnings code and employee data
  • Printing employee time documents
  • Frequently used earning codes
  • Adding a time sheet on-line
  • Enter employee's time and leave from employee time documents
  • Error detection and correction
  • Maintaining leave balances
  • Describes time entry panels and leave accrual panel
Processing Unclassified Salary Increases and Budget Data Using HRIS

A course designed for those who will be entering unclassified salary increases on-line using the HRIS. The course will include numerous scenarios that will apply to participant's role in updating unclassified salaries. This course will be held in a computer lab and each participant will have access to a computer for completing activities presented in class.
