Benefits Eligibility

Employees are benefits eligible if they are:

  • Faculty/Staff (Unclassified) Employees:  appointed to either a full-time (1.0 FTE) or part-time (.5 FTE or more) position for at least 90 calendar days or more.
  • University Support staff:  appointed to either a full-time (1.0 FTE) or part-time (.5 FTE or more) position requiring at least 1,000 hours of compensable service per year.

Employees appointed to positions with Federal benefits (e.g. retirement plan, health insurance, disability) may participate in these State of Kansas and Kansas State University programs: the Teachers and Employees Association (TEA) life insurance program, workers’ compensation (effective February 1, 2003), unemployment compensation (effective February 1, 2003), the State of Kansas Flexible Spending Account (KanElect), and the Voluntary Tax Sheltered Annuity Program.
