Enrollment-Change-Notification Timelines

| Kansas Public Employees
Retirement | Participation after
one year waiting period. Participation is mandatory. Waiver of one year waiting
period available if:
- employee currently enrolled in KPERS; or
- employee previously enrolled in KPERS with a current active contract.
Division of Human Resources notifies employee of KPERS start date and completion
of KPERS-1 form (Member Status Report). |
| Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) | Participation
after one year waiting period. Participation is mandatory. Waiver of one
year waiting period available if:
- employee participated at least one year (365 days) within the last five
years at another United States institution of higher education; or
- employee participated at least one year (365 days) within the last five
years in a State of Kansas retirement plan (e.g. KPERS).
Employee has 90 calendar days from HIRE date to provide documentation of prior
participation in a qualifying retirement plan. Enrollment effective upon acceptance
of documentation and election of retirement plan provider. Division of Human
Resources notifies employee of KBOR start date. |
| Group Health Insurance (GHI)
Enrollment | Participation
is optional. If enrolling or not enrolling, employee must complete a State
of Kansas Health Plan Enrollment Form within 31calendar days of HIRE date
making their selection. Submit State of Kansas Health Plan Enrollment Form
to Division of Human Resources. May require supporting documentation (e.g.
marriage or birth certificate). |
| Group Health Insurance (GHI) Changes | Any
qualifying mid-year events must be elected within 31calendar days of the
event. Submit State of Kansas Health Plan Change Form to Division of Human
Resources. May require supporting documentation (e.g. marriage or birth
certificates). |
| KanElect Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Enrollment | Participation
is optional. If enrolling, employee must complete a KanElect Flexible Spending
Account Enrollment and Change Form within 31calendar days of HIRE date making
their selection. |
| KanElect Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Changes | Any qualifying
mid-year events must be elected within 31 calendar days of the event. Submit
KanElect Flexible Spending Account Enrollment and Change Form to Division
of Human Resources. May require supporting documentation (e.g. marriage or
birth certificates). |
| Basic Term Life Insurance (150%) | Submit
KPERS-7/99 (Designation of Beneficiary) immediately upon appointment. |
| KPERS Optional Group Term Life Insurance
(OGLI) | Participation
is optional. Enrollment may be selected any time; however, employee guaranteed
coverage of up to $50,000 if selected within 30 calendar days of HIRE date.
Later enrollments or amounts over $50,000 require underwriter approval. |
| Teachers and Employees Association (TEA) Term Life
Insurance | Participation is optional.
Enrollment may be selected any time; however, employee guaranteed coverage
of up to $50,000 if selected within 31 days of HIRE date. Later enrollments
or amounts over $50,000 require underwriter approval. |
| Workers’ Compensation Program | Initial
notification (by telephone or e-mail) of injury or accident made to the
Division of Human Resources as soon as possible. Submit Accident/Injury
Report (PER-17) within 3 business days of injury or accident. Medical updates
submitted to the Division of Human Resources as soon as possible. Advise
(by telephone or e-mail) the Division of Human Resources immediately when
employee returns to work if absent one full shift or more. |
