Health Insurance
State of Kansas K-State and the employee share the cost. First day of month following 30 days of employment. Must apply within the first 30 days of employment. Employee selects from a variety of medical plans, including dependent coverage. Documentation must accompany application.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) Employee First day of month following 30 days of employment. Must apply within the first 30 days of employment. Pre-tax payroll deduction provides reimbursement for medical and dental expenses.

Retirement Plan - Mandatory
Kansas Board of RegentsEmployee pays 5.5% of gross salary; University pays 8.5%Mandatory participation after completing 1-year waiting periodUnclassified (Faculty and Professional) Employees: Plan providers are ING Financial Partners and TIAA-CREF. Contributions are pre-tax. One-year waiting period may be waived for (1) participation in a mandatory retirement program at a US institution of higher education for 365 consecutive days within the past 5 years or (2) membership in any other State of Kansas retirement plan.
Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) Employee pays 4% of gross salary Tier 1: Mandatory participation at date of hire Classified employees hired before 7/1/2009 or vested KPERS members returning to work: Eligible for retirement benefit at age 62 with 10 years of service credit or age 65 with any years of service credit. Retirement is also available when combination of age and years of service credit equal 85 points. Reduced benefit for early retirement at age 55 with 10 years of service credit. Retirement income is based upon salary and years of service credit.

Employee Upon Employment Employees may contribute to a voluntary retirement plan to the maximum limit allowed by the federal regulations. Pre-tax and/or after-tax funds are withheld from payroll and remitted by K-State into an account with an approved retirement plan provider of the employee’s choice.
Deferred Compensation (457 Plan) Employee Upon Employment State of Kansas Deferred Compensation Plan through ING Financial Partners. Employees may tax defer voluntary retirement contributions up to the maximum allowed by federal regulations.

Vacation
Leave
K-State Accrues upon employment in a vacation leave-accruing position. Leave is credited and available for use the first day of the next pay period.Unclassified (Faculty and Professional) Employees: Vacation Leave Earned per Pay Period: 8 hours. Maximum accumulation is 304 hours. Leave is prorated based upon the number of hours worked within a pay period, percentage of full-time position, and overtime eligibility status.
Classified Employees: Vacation Leave Earned per Pay Period: 3.7 - 6.7, depending upon years of service. Maximum accumulation is 304 hours.
Sick Leave K-State Accrues upon employment. Leave is credited and available for use the first day of the next pay period. Full-time employees earn 3.7 hours per pay period. Leave is adjusted and prorated based upon the number of hours worked within a pay period. Sick leave may be used for employee's personal illness or for qualified medical care. Under defined circumstances, sick leave may be used for illness or qualified medical care of family members.
Holidays K-State Upon employment New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day(for those who accrue vacation leave), Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, Discretionary Day (for those who accrue vacation leave), and other days if designated by the Governor.

K-State Upon employment Military Leave programs vary according to military orders.
Funeral/Bereavement Leave K-State Upon employment May be granted leave with pay for a maximum of 6 working days, depending on circumstances, to make arrangements for and to attend the funeral of a close relative.
Life Insurance
Group Term Life K-State Upon employment Death benefit is 150% of the employee’s annual rate of compensation at no cost to the employee.
KPERS Optional Employee Upon employment $5,000 to $250,000 coverage available. Guaranteed issue of $50,000 if purchased within 30 days of initial hire.
Teachers and Employees Association (TEA) Optional Employee Upon employment $10,000 to $250,000 with a maximum of 5 times annual salary coverage available. Guaranteed issue of $50,000 if purchased within 30 days of initial hire. Dependent coverage and will preparation are also available.
Workers Compensation

Long-Term Disability
State of Kansas K-State Upon employment Upon approval, monthly benefits start after a minimum of 180 days of continuous and total disability. Disability benefit is 60% of employee's annual rate of compensation on the date the employee was last at work to a maximum of $5,000 per month.
Tuition Assistance
Kansas State University K-State Upon full-time employment K-State will pay tuition for one K-State undergraduate- or graduate-level academic credit course with a maximum of 3 credit hours per Fall, Spring, Summer semesters.
K-State Dependent/Spouse GrantK-StateUpon full-time employmentBenefit is available for Fall and Spring semesters. Dependents who are full-time students taking undergraduate level courses receive grant funding up to 7 credit hours per semester; dependents taking graduate level courses or spouses receive grant funding up to 3 credit hours per semester.
Learning Quest - Education Savings
State of Kansas Employee Upon employment The State of Kansas Learning Quest Education Savings Program offers the advantages of tax-deferred earnings growth and reduced taxes on withdrawals. Contributions for this college savings program are made on an after-tax basis.
