What Students Need To Know

If you do not know what your instructor expects of you, ask. Some faculty assume students realize that working with others on assignments is unacceptable. If you have made a habit of working on homework assignments, take-home exams and quizzes, and using others' papers as your own, please do not assume you can continue to do so here at K-State. Take the time to ask EACH of your instructors if you are not clear about the parameters of EACH class.

Some instructors use teamwork and collaboration as part of their pedagogy--their teaching style. Other instructors operate on the given that you do your own work at all times. If you are not certain, make it a point to ask if collaboration is acceptable.

THE DEFAULT WITH THE K-STATE HONOR SYSTEM IS INDIVIDUAL WORK. If an instructor has not stipulated in written communication, the default is that you do your own work--in lab write-ups, in group work collaboration write-ups, in similar assignments. When an Honor Council hearing panel hears a case, chances are very certain the panel will make decisions based on what the FACULTY member expects in his or her class.
