Policy Agreement Between Honor & Integrity System & Registrar's Office

If a K-State faculty member wishes to assign an XF for a course due to a student's alleged Honor Pledge violation, the faculty member makes the request of the Honor & Integrity System Director, steveks@k-state.edu, and provides appropriate documentation (doc) for Honor & Integrity System files.

The Director notifies the Registrar to place a hold on the student's academic record. This prevents a student's dropping the course. It also notifies the student of the faculty member's request for an XF. According to Honor & Integrity System Case Procedure, the student has five academic days from receipt of the letter to contest the allegation.

If the student does not contest the allegation, the Director notifies the Registrar to record an XF on the student's academic record. The F will remain permanently on the record; the X (which indicates a violation of the Honor Pledge) can only be removed by successfully passing the Development and Integrity Course, offered in five sections each semester.

Should a student decide to contest the allegation, the Director appoints Honor Council Case Investigators (doc) from the Honor Council. Following an investigation, the Director appoints an Honor Council Hearing Panel and Chair, also from the body of the Honor Council. The task of this body is to listen to all case information and then decide if an Honor Pledge violation has occurred.

If the Hearing Panel decides to uphold the allegation, the Director notifies the Registrar to assign an XF to the student's academic record. If the Hearing Panel decides a violation of the Honor Pledge did not occur, the Director notifies the Registrar to remove the academic hold from the student's academic record.
