Degrees in History
The History Department offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in History. We also offer History as part of a double major or as a minor. Students should begin by taking one of the survey sequences (World History, European History, or U.S. History) and HIST 300: Introduction to Historical Thinking. With sophomore standing, students can enroll in the wide range of upper-division courses (most are at the 500-level). Toward the end of the major, students enroll in HIST 586: The Advanced Seminar in History. Both HIST 300 and 586 are smaller classes reserved for History majors only and require advisor permission.
A crucial component to successful completion of any major is Advising. Each History major is paired with a faculty advisor to help navigate course selection and make sure degree requirements are met. Advising season happens twice a year during enrollment time; fall - the end of October through the middle of November and spring - the end of March through the middle of April. History majors are required to schedule an appointment with their Department of History advisor before enrollment each semester and an email reminder will be sent out to all students. The "advisor hold" on your iSIS account will not be lifted until you complete this appointment. To schedule your appointment, check your enrollment date in iSIS and call 785-532-6730 or stop by the History Office in Eisenhower 208. Please feel free to contact the History Office at any time if you have questions about your advisor or the enrollment process.
To ensure that your appointment is as productive as possible, consult the current advising instructions.
