O
ften times, it may be easier or seem more comfortable to search for online resources on your own. Some of these online self-help resources provide you with an opportunity to evaluate yourself as well as review other resources. Taking a self-evaluation does not provide you with enough information to fully diagnose yourself, especially if you feel it may be a serious problem. Please make sure to meet with a professional to provide you with more support and guidance. This is not a comprehensive list nor do we endorse the information that students may receive from these websites.
Another great opportunity to learn and develop skills and positive habits is by taking a course at K-State that focuses on some aspect of your health that you want to improve or learn more about. Courses offered include study skills, stress management, finding a major or career, personal wellness, and more. Check out Courses at K-State or talk to your advisor.
An important part of K-State HD is providing students, faculty, and staff with resources that will help them when working with students. It is important to recognize some characteristics that may help you identify if a student is in need of support or guidance. The Recognizing Students in Distress link will provide you with some of those characteristics; however, all individuals and challenges are unique. Thus, there may be other ways that a student behaves that call attention to him/her needing help. On the other hand, some students may just need information or help finding the right office in which case the Resource Categories or Student Services List may be more helpful to you.
If you are concerned about a friend or a student, you may be unsure of what to do. The When You are Concerned about Someone page provides a few basic tips on how to approach the situation. Remember that there are times when you may feel uncomfortable handling the problem. If that is the case or you think that a student might benefit from other services, make sure to refer the student to another resource on-campus. The Making a Referral for Additional Help page offers some tips on how to make a referral.
