Chairperson

Jamie Weiser

Jamie Weiser is a sophomore in Life Sciences / Pre-Optometry. Jamie is from Champaign, Illinois (home to the University of Illinois!), so she bleeds a little bit of orange and blue along with the purple. In addition to serving as the Tabling Coordinator for K-State Healthy Decisions, Jamie also works for the K-State Women's Center and is a receptionist at the International Student Center. Besides work, Jamie loves going to theatre productions, playing volleyball, enhancing her life with various pink items, listening to live music, and smiling!

Chair's Position Description
  • Create agendas and send to HD Coordinator for printing 1 day before meeting
  • Run the meeting, or appoint someone if absent
  • Keep in contact with the HD Coordinator and board members to keep up-to-date
  • Assist coordinator with HD orientation meetings at the beginning of each semester
  • Organize check-in meetings with each board member (one per semester)
  • Approve minutes & email approved minutes back to secretary within 24 hours
  • Reserve room for meetings

Secretary

Sarah Dudte

Sarah is a sophomore in Athletic Training. She is currently the Community Liason for Healthy Decisions. Along with HD, she is also on the Student Health Advisory Committee, in the Student Athletic Training Association, Circle K, and a member of Smurthwaite Scholarship/Leadership House. She’s very busy throughout the week, but enjoys relaxing on the weekends.

Secretary's Position Description
  • Take meeting minutes
  • Keep attendance records
  • Email meeting reminders 48 hours before meeting
  • Email minutes immediately after meeting to chairperson for approval
  • Once received approved minutes, email to board within 24 hours
  • Keep binder up-to-date with presentations, meetings minutes, and other information pertinent to HD
  • Help with recruitment of new members by sending out applications
  • Add new member contacts on email lists

HD Ambassador Coordinator

Cortney Showalter

Cortney Showalter is a freshman in Biology / Pre-Chiropractic with a minor in Leadership Studies. Cortney is from Thayer, Kansas.  In addition to serving as the Ambassador Coordinator for K-State Healthy Decisions, Cortney is also a Mary Kay Cosmetics Independent Beauty Consultant, a member of UPC After Hours, WAR and Wildcats Forever.  In Cortney’s free time she loves taking pictures, watching movies, hanging out with friends and family, and going to the Wildcat Basketball and Football games to cheer on the cats!

HD Ambassador Coordinator's Position Description
  • Coordinates the HD ambassadors to talk to student organizations, classes, faculty, residence halls, Greek houses, student services, etc.
  • Meet with student organization presidents to develop relationships and discuss opportunities to collaborate or present
  • Contact student organizations a couple of weeks before the start of the semester
  • Timely communication with ambassadors and presentations
  • Meet with ambassadors no more than 3 weeks into the semester
    • Determine availability of ambassadors
    • Develop individual and group goals
  • Meet with ambassadors every couple of week or more depending on time of year
  • Keep track of ambassadors participation (presentations, tables, meetings, etc.)
  • Keep track of HD outreach intake forms – binder is in HD Coordinator’s office

Britney Weiser, Samantha Smith, Nicole Steiben, and Melvin Fatimehin

Britney Weiser is sophomore in Architecture. When she’s not slaving away in Architecture studio, she is working as a server at Applebee’s. As an Architecture Ambassador for K-State Healthy Decisions, she hopes to help her peers learn healthier habits in regards to sleep patterns, time/stress management, eating choices, and caffeine. Also, in her free-time, she enjoys cooking, reading, playing volleyball, painting, and jamming out to Jack Johnson!

Samantha Smith is a junior majoring in Life Sciences/Pre-Med with a Spanish minor. She works in the KSU Vet Med complex in a Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology research lab and also works in the bakery at Dillon’s in Westloop. In addition to studying and work, she volunteers in the Emergency Department at Mercy. Any free time (and there's not much!!) is spent hanging out with friends or reading medical books.

Nicole Stieben is a sophomore in Agriculture Communications. In addition to serving as an ambassador for K-State Healthy Decisions, Nicole also works for the Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work department on campus. Between school and work, Nicole likes to make time for trips to the Rec, listening to music and enjoying the company of her friends.

Melvin is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences as a Political Science Major. He is from Rockville, Maryland which is about 40 minutes outside of Washington, DC. Along with HD, Melvin is also a part of Student Mobilization. When he’s not in school he likes to socialize, listen to music, dance, and play sports. He is also really good at fishing.

HD Ambassador Position Description
  • Work with the campus ambassador coordinator
  • Provide presentations for student organizations, classes, faculty, residence halls, Greek houses, student services, etc.
  • Provide support for HD events and other events as needed
  • Communicate with professors/organizations advisors about HD resources, events, and presentation opportunities
  • Meet with HD Ambassador Coordinator to set specific goals

Community Chair

Danielle Shearrer

Danielle is a senior in Athletic Training and Kinesiology with a Pre-Physical Therapy option. Along with HD, she is also a member of the Student Athletic Training Association. She was an intern at Joint Effort Rehab this past summer in Colorado and loved it.

Community Chair 's Position Description
  • Build community among the board through social activities in the K-State and Manhattan communities
  • Plan HD social events, potentially 1 per month
    • Could include community service, bowling, ice skating, walking the Konza, etc.
  • Help plan retreat activities
  • Plan end-of-semester socials
  • Develop rewards and certificates for board members

Current Events Chair

Madison Horsch

Madison Horsch is a sophomore in Food Science with a minor in leadership studies. Along with HD she is a member of Pi Beta Phi women’s fraternity and K-State’s Food Science Club. She has a passion for the Spanish language and can’t wait to study abroad next year. She spends most of her time focusing on her studies and loves to learn random, unusual facts that she can share with anyone who will listen. When not found with her nose in a book she enjoys working out, cooking, and hanging out with her friends. Her most favorite pass time is watching the news!
Current Events Chair's Position Description
  • Responsible for the “Resource Spotlight” at each meeting (helps to inform the board about different resources at K-State)
  • Email Chairperson the Resource Spotlight information 2 days before meeting in order to be put on the agenda
  • Brings a “fun fact” to each meeting
  • Compile a book for the different resources to make an easy go-to reference for board members
  • Once a month, bring a national/global event to the board as well as what is happening on campus for that event (e.g. breast cancer awareness month)
  • Contact multiple resources on campus for the resource spotlight
  • Help with other HD events

Event Planning Co-Coordinators

Rachel Cunningham

Rachel Cunningham is a senior in Marketing and Public Relations. Along with HD, she is also the Chair of the Student Health Advisory Committee and the Community Service Coordinator for Circle K. She is also a member of the Public Relations Student Society of American and has been involved in Relay for Life. She currently works at Lafene Health Center and at the Rec as a Challenge Course Facilitator. She is unsure of what she wants to do upon graduation in May 2011, but is leaning towards event planning or public relations in the health field.

Caitlin Adams

Caitlin Adams is on the Event Planning Committee for Healthy Decisions. She is a junior in Dietetics and while not studying, she volunteers for Project Plants and is the Student Liaison for the Student Dietetics Association. She works for the Agricultural Department as a food preparer for four Manhattan after school garden clubs.

Event Planning Coordinator's Position Description
  • Plan and coordinate 1 week-long event per semester (2 total)
  • Plan Wildcat Wellness Wednesdays
  • Help organize Fall and Spring Union Expo & Activities Carnivals
  • Work with UPC for Finals De-stresser
  • Correspond with groups who want to co-sponsor with HD
    • Email the group to let them know how much they have been awarded, what steps they need to take, and other correspondence as needed
  • Bring budget requests to the HD board
  • Outreach to other groups on campus for co-sponsorship
  • Works with Tabling Coordinator

Event Planning Committee

Josh Neufeld

Josh Neufeld is a Biology/Pre-med major, with a secondary major in Gerontology and a minor in Chemistry. Along with HD, he is also a member of Acacia Fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity, NSCS, and Golden Key International Honor Society.

Tabling Coordinator

Samantha Gros

Samantha Gros is a Junior in Life Science and intentions towards Pre-Nursing. She is also involved in K-State's Pre-Nursing club as Secretary and works part time at Meadowlark Hills. She is very passionate about having a healthy lifestyle that involves running, building personal relationships, and the occasional sweets for her everyday sweet tooth. She loves being the oldest in her family because she is able to watch her two little brothers grow up and hopes to be someone they can always turn to.

Tabling Coordinator's Position Description
  • Organize all tabling efforts for HD
  • Make sure we have an HD table, relevant supplies, and members to cover the table at HD events and other events HD is invited to
  • Communicate with other organizations and services in order for them to have an informational table at HD events
    • Initial contact to ask them to participate
    • Inform groups where their table will be located
    • Inquire if they need any accommodations (i.e. electrical outlet near table, 2 tables, etc.)
    • Send timely reminders about the event
    • Send a thank you to them after the event for their participation
  • Reserve tables needed at the location of the event and submit a floor plan of how tables should be arranged
  • Works with Event Planning Co-Coordinators

Marketing Chair

Amanda Keim

Amanda Keim is a junior majoring in print and electronic journalism and minoring in leadership studies. Amanda has been a member of the KSU Women's Rowing team for the past two years and is continuing as a varsity member this year. She has worked for the Collegian and is currently serving an internship with KMAN radio. Amanda is beginning her second semester as a member of Healthy Decisions and chairs the marketing board.

Marketing Chair's Position Description
  • Market events including developing a display ad for the collegian, creating flyers, chalking, etc.,
  • Develop the newsletter
  • Maintain flyers & information for tables
  • Work with community organizations and businesses to ask for in-kind donations, such as gift certificates, for HD events
  • Update tri-fold display board
  • Develop new ways to market HD
  • Communicate and meet with the marketing committee on a regular basis
  • Delegate different parts of marketing to the committee
    • Set goals and personal projects for each membe

Yuting Li is a first year graduate student in Economics. This is her first time in the United States. She enjoys new experiences and meeting new people and is actively involved in campus life.

  • Work with the marketing chair to market events, developing content for the newsletter, creating flyers, brochures, and other items as needed
  • Set goals and personal projects for each member

Technology Coordinator

Tracy Shi

Tracy Shi is a second year Ph.D. student majoring in Industrial Engineering. She has also worked for Chinese Scholar Association. Tracy describes herself as a super easy-going person. She enjoys doing yoga, traveling, dancing and all kinds of sports when she isn’t studying. Music is one of her favorite ways to relax after working hard.

Technology Coordinator's Position Description
  • Keep the HD Google calendar up-to-date with HD and campus events
  • Checks Collegian and campus calendar for events
  • Update calendar every week
  • Organize the videotaping and picture-taking at various events
  • Develops videos of those events to be put on the HD website
  • Uploads the pictures onto the HD Google site

Salina Representative

Jon McLelland

Jonathan McLelland is a 4th year student at the K-State Salina campus in the Tech Management and Professional Pilot Degree program. Jon is also interested in the Physical Therapy Program. Along with his studies, he enjoys roller blading, lifting, and spending time with friends and family.

Volunteers

Kelcie Hubach

Kelcie Hubach is a senior in Nutritional Science, Gerontology, and Pre-medicine. She is sees herself as a research nerd and enjoys doing clinical trial research for Kansas State. She also enjoys working out, socializing, being an avid fan of her little brother and sister’s extracurricular activities, and being involved on campus as much as possible. She plans to go to Medical school next fall of 2010.

DeAnna Coughlin

DeAnna Coughlin is a senior in Family Studies and Human Services with a minor in Women's Studies. She holds the "Current Events" position on the Healthy Decisions Board. At meetings she is in charge of the "Resource Spotlight", which helps to inform all of the other wonderful HD members about all of the helpful resources we have here on our K-State campus! She loves being the "Current Events" position because it allows her to learn even more about everything offered here at K-State!
