Everything in the Smallest Room

Scientists and engineers are involved in the design and production of all the products we use every day and the buildings we live, work and play in. At this event we are going to explore the smallest room in the house – the bathroom! We will discover how the work of scientists and engineers are involved in everything from the makeup we use to the toilet!

Who should attend?

This event is intended for girls currently in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.  Girls can come on their own or with a group of friends from school or their community.

Teachers are also invited to attend to observe activities that can be used in their classrooms. Parents who choose to attend should plan to observe activities with a group of girls that does not include your daughter. There will be a $5 fee for lunch for adults.

How much does it cost?
The registration fee of $15 includes event participation and lunch.  A limited number of scholarships are available for families in need of financial assistance. Scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis. Scholarship criteria include but not limited to:

  • Family income

  • Number of persons living on income

  • First generation college student status (parents did not graduate from college)

  • Latina background

  • Immigrant Status (Immigrant or immigrated status include both those with or without papers)

  • Special individual/family circumstances

What kind of activities will we do?
Click here to see a list of the activities from the last time we did this event - The activities for this event may not be exactly the same but this will give you a good idea of the types of activities we do.

Who will I hang out with at the event?
Girls from all over Kansas attend our events. You will be divided into small groups and will be chaperoned by K-State students during the entire event. Come prepared to meet new friends!

Groups will be formed by age group. Sixth and Eighth graders will not be in groups together. If you have a friend coming and would like to be in a group together (keeping in mind the rule above) just let us know.

What about transportation?

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from K-State. If you would like to carpool with someone please contact us and we will see if there are others from your area attending the event.

If you are a teacher bringing a group of students that meet our scholarship criteria we may be able to help with funds for transportation. Contact Susan for more details (susanac@ksu.edu) or 785.532.3395.
