GROW 2003 Summer Workshop - The Heart of the Matter

Presented By: Dr. Beth Davis, Dr. Lisa Freeman, Dr. Barret Bulmer

Your heart beats about once every second. A mouse heart beats 5 times faster than your heart, while a horse's heart beats 3 times slower. We dissected hearts from different species to compare their size and structure. We learned how electrical signals are carried from our brain to our heart, and we measured the surface electrical activity of our hearts (ECG) and compared our ECG to the ECG of the mouse, dog, horse, and elephant.
