GROW 2002 Summer Workshop - Waste
in Industrial Settings
Presented By: Sherry Davis, K-State
Faculty
This presentation and accompanying
"hands-on" exercise was designed to help GROW girls
understand how waste is created in the manufacturing processes
and what can be done to reduce wastes or pollution from those
processes. The session started with a brief presentation of
pollution prevention (P2) concepts and then GROW girls participated
in an exercise with the Play Doh Fun Factory to manufacture"
parts. Each girl got to participate by playing roles of a
Big Boss, a Production Manager, a Quality Control person,
or a Process Technician. The session wrapped up with a discussion
of the exercise and evaluation of P2 options that would make
the Fun Factory produce more parts with less wastes and environmental
impacts.
