GROW 2002 Summer Workshop - Supporting a Load

What happens when you want to put a waterbed on the second floor bedroom of an old house? What keeps a bridge from collapsing when the traffic across it is bumper to bumper? In this activity, GROW girls learned about how we design the structures we use and live in to carry the loads we put on them every day, so that our built environment works the way we want it to. Girls built sample structures and tested them to explore the properties of structures that allow them to support different loads.
