GROW 2001 Summer Workshop
A workshop hosted by Kansas State University June 13-14, 2001.
Sponsored by a grant from the National Science Foundation,
the
KSU Women in Engineering and Science Program.
and our partners
WHAT:
The GROW Workshop was a two-day
science enhancement activity held on the Kansas State University
campus and the Konza Prairie Biological Station. It featured
presentations and hands-on sessions run by KSU faculty and
students as well as group activities on career choices and
other topics. Participants gained experience with laboratory
based science, field science, and data analysis and interpretation.
A diverse range of activities was included to emphasize the
career possibilities in the sciences and engineering and how
they all related to the overall workshop theme of Environmental
Stewardship. Girls involved in the workshop will have opportunities
to carry out follow- up experiments, data sharing, and communication
with workshop presenters, and to see how engineers and scientists
in local industries address environmental issues in their
daily work.
WHO:
Girls who completed the sixth
and seventh grades in 2001, either as individuals or with
a Girl Scout troop or similar organization. Adult leaders
were also invited to attend all workshop activities.
