GROW 2001 Summer Workshop - Light
& Colors
Presented by: Dr. Ahlam Al-Rawi
and Dr. Jingyu Lin
Light and colors fascinate all of us. The color of an object
can sometimes tell us something about that object. For example,
we can tell the temperature of the body or what planets and
stars are made of from their colors. Just as in arithmetic
where we learn how to add and subtract numbers, in physics
we learn how add and subtract colors. We are also able to
produce semiconductor materials that emit different colors.
Based on these materials, we also make tiny lasers and light
emitting diodes (LED). If you'd like to know how we do this
and want to have fun come and visit some optics and semiconductor
labs where there are a group of physicists who would like
to share with you how they ended up in this fascinating field.
Also come and see a tiny KSU- made wild-cat that emits blue
light!
