Timeline for Grievance Process

 

Based on Appendix G of the University Handbook

  1. The GGB Chair receives a copy of the grievance as outlined in Appendix G2a of the University Handbook.

  2. Five (5) workdays after receiving the grievance, written notification of acceptance or rejection of grievance is sent to the grievant and administrative respondent(s).

  3. If accepted, ten (10) workdays following the written notification, the grievant and the administrative respondent(s) submit to the chair of the GGB and to the other party a preliminary list of:
    1. all documents to be introduced at the hearing
    2. witnesses to be called
    3. documents requested from the other party
    4. the name of the attorney (if an attorney is to accompany the party to the hearing); and
    5. the name and title of the non-lawyer representative (if one is to accompany the party to the hearing).
      *In addition, the respondents also must submit a written response to the allegations contained in the grievance to both the chair of the GGB and to the grievant.

  4. Fifteen (15) workdays following written notification, both parties shall provide each other and the chair of the GGB with:
    1. the documents requested in 3c above or a statement stating why the documents were not provided, and
    2. all other documents to be introduced during the hearing.


  5. Fifteen (15) workdays following written notification, the GGB chair will provide each party with:
    1. a list of members of the hearing panel, the presiding officer, and the two alternates; and
    2. notification of the date(s), time(s) and place(s) of the hearing.


  6. Twenty (20) workdays following written notification:
    1. Both parties can strike names from the list of panel members (GGB chair appoints replacements as necessary).
    2. Both parties will exchange (with copies to the GGB chair) an updated list of documents to be introduced and witnesses that may be called.


  7. No more than thirty-five (35) workdays from notification, the hearing shall begin.

  8. Twenty-one (21) workdays after the completion of the final hearing session, the presiding officer shall present the report of the hearing panel to the GGB chairperson.

  9. Five (5) workdays after receiving the report, the GGB chair will send copies to:
    1. the president of the university,
    2. the grievance parties, and
    3. the president of faculty senate.


  10. Ten (10) workdays after receiving the report, the president of the university shall respond to the recommendations. Copies of the response should be sent to:
    1. the chair of the GGB,
    2. the grievance parties, and
    3. the president of faculty senate.
