K-State Healthy Decisions Speaker Series

The following message comes from K-State HD.

Can you believe that it is almost October! You have had some time to adjust and settle in here at K-State. Some of you may still have questions regarding many aspects of college life. K-State HD is here to answer your questions. On Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 12:00-1:00pm, we are sponsoring our first part of the speaker series being held throughout the year.

Phase one focuses on more personal topics related to coming to K-State. We are gathering students and professionals who have had many different experiences living in Greek houses, residence halls, and off-campus housing. The topics covered will include many aspects such as sleep and study habits, nutrition and fitness, relationships (roommates and friendships), consumption, and fiscal responsibility.

They will be sharing personal experiences and how they overcome challenges. You will get the chance to ask them questions. Tables providing a variety of information and free stuff will also be available.

Come join us on Wednesday, October 1 in the Union Courtyard from 12:00-1:00! Feel free to eat your lunch during the panel.

Thanks,
K-State HD

Mark your calendars for our next speaker panel on October 28! If you’re interested in sharing your story contact us at kstatehd@ksu.edu.

The Royal Purple searches for the Ultimate K-Stater

The following message comes from The Royal Purple Yearbook and DVD staff.

In honor of our 100th Anniversary, we are bringing back an old tradition to the Royal Purple Yearbook and DVD. We are having a Royal Purple King and Queen contest. For this each Greek house has the opportunity to nominate one member for the contest.

The purpose of the contest is to feature what we would like to call, “the Ultimate K-Stater.” We are looking for nominees that are involved on campus, know the history of the university and above all, have a deep pride for K-State. The winners of the contest will be the featured guests at the Royal Purple’s final portrait picture event in November.
Additionally, both winners will receive prizes to be announced at a later date.

To nominate your member, please email your selection with a small paragraph about the person to the Royal Purple at rp@spub.ksu.edu by Friday, Oct. 3. From there, a list of all nominees will be posted at royalpurple.ksu.edu. To vote, you have to get your portrait picture taken for one vote and if you purchase a book you get an additional three votes.

We look forward to hearing from you and your nominees!

Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Phi Epsilon chapters announce Ali Kemp Bandstand

The following message comes from Merrell Harmon, Vice President of Philanthropy for Pi Beta Phi.

The Kansas Beta chapter of Pi Beta Phi is excited to announce that with the help of Alpha Delta Pi, Sigma Phi Epsilon and the support of the Greek Community at Kansas State University; we are putting on the 5th annual Ali Kemp Bandstand on Thursday October 2, 2008 at the Wareham Opera House at 6:00PM. Please help our efforts by spreading the news to non-Greeks that T-shirts can be purchased for $12.00 at Varney's Bookstore in Aggieville starting September 26th.

Ali Kemp Bandstand is a fundraiser in remembrance of a Pi Phi chapter member Ali Kemp, who was tragically murdered in 2002. Ali would have been a sophomore at Kansas State University. The purpose of this event is to inform and equip women with protection techniques through self-defense training, hosted by The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation. The self-defense class is then followed by a benefit concert. All the money raised from Ali Kemp Bandstand is donated to The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation started by Roger Kemp, Ali's Father, to help other women learn to fight back. Ali's Father and mother are Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Delta Pi alumni, that is the reason for our tri-sponsorship of Ali Kemp Bandstand. I have received numerous emails from K-State Alum who were in Ali's Pi Phi pledge class, all were so grateful we were continuing this event. Please join us in continuing this tradition and keep Ali's story alive.

Delta Sigma Phi new members want to wash your car

The following message comes from Matt Marchesini, New Member class Treasurer, Delta Sigma Phi.

On Sunday October 5th, the Delta Sigma Phi New Member Class will be having a car wash to help raise money for their annual trip to another Delta Sigma Phi chapter. However, instead of you driving your car to the location, we are bringing the car wash to you! For $5 per car, our guys will work for you to make sure your car is spotless and looking good for the fall Any support is greatly appreciated by our class.

Our class executives will be coming around to your sorority on Wednesday to hand out a flier for the car wash.

However, to make this a success, we will need some help on that Sunday with locating the water hookup to the house. It will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time, and see you all next Sunday!
