Fraternity Review - Issue #5
Bring in the Greeks update!
The following message comes from Director of Community and Internal Relations, Kellen Begnoche.
Guys,
As you hopefully are aware, BIG (bring in the greeks) is set for this Saturday, the 18th from 10am-2pm. There will be 2 shifts, one from 10am-noon and one from noon-2pm. This isn't a huge committment but will make a big difference. This event is something they have done in the past and was designed to unite the Greek community while serving the Manhattan and surrounding communities at the same time. This is the ONLY community service day that IFC plans during the school year, which is why we really want your participation.
The format for this year is pretty simple: you will be assigned a community/project with your homecoming partners. There will be site leaders at the places that will help direct you as to what exactly you'll be doing. I will be bringing packets of information to your chapters on Wednesday that will have all the details about where your chapter has been assigned. There are 6 projects we have, and you will help with one of the following:
-Chapman - cleanup/fence building/misc projects
-Ogden - working at community center doing some landscaping and cleanup
-Wamego - outdoor planting/landscaping
-Ft. Riley - bed making for 400 soldiers, misc projects
-Manhattan - winterizing the community gardens, other landscaping
-Manhattan - yardwork/"honey-do" lists for army wives around town
Again, I'm not requiring your chapter's participation, but I will be disappointed if you don't have a few members show up.
There has only been 1 Fraternity that has said they have committed members, but most every sorority has turned in committments. I emailed and called each of your chapters community service chairs so they are aware of what's going on. Please don't let your homecoming partners, and those community members down.
If you have ANY questions at all, please call or email me. Also, make sure that your chapters can get stuff turned in to make this event as successful as possible.
Thanks men,
Kellen
FuturesQuest Opportunity
Leave your legacy by sending one of your new members to FuturesQuest, a Greek Leadership Development conference during Winter Break. Hard copies of the programs description were distributed at the President's Council meeting this evening but more information can be found online at www.nicindy.org/programs/futures_quest/
A great opportunity because the conference is held in the winter as opposed to the summer, many national organizations also provide scholarships that aid in funding members to attend this conference.
Please look into sending at least one of your new members to FuturesQuest!
Farewell to a President
The following message comes from Director of Recruitment, Andrew Manness:
Men,
I want you to welcome to the Council of Presidents Tim Mena of Kappa Sigma. What our alumni and headquarters like about him is that he knows how to work with other people, regardless of their certain qualities. He's currently done a wonderful job in his first week and he makes me feel comfortable in the immediate and long-term successes of our chapter.
The main reason that I wanted to send you all this email is to let you know why Kappa Sigma decided to install a new interim executive committee. As many of you know, our chapter is under an unofficial recolonization and trusteeship from our headquarters. After evaluation of some of our members from this semester, we felt best that it was time to allow officially our new member executive board to step into the light and continue their running of the chapter. Our former president Dane Miller demonstrated tremendous humility by resigning from the position last week. He put our chapter and, more importantly, the Fraternity ahead of himself by doing such a selfless act. Please understand that, while we have had issues within our leadership, Dane tried his best to "do a lot with a little." I ask you to thank him in any way ... drop him an email, give him a call... for his work as our president.
Interfraternally,
Andrew Maness

Some pranks resulting in serious consequences for chapters and members
Many chapter leaders are getting very concerned regarding the damage and distress pranks are causing to their chapter property and membership. Many chapters are filing police reports and have vowed to press charges in cases of damaged or destroyed property. Theft of chapter property, in many cases, can result in jail time and heavy fines. Please review with your chapter members the expectations for healthy and respectful community building and share with them that your chapter will not tolerate disrespect for another chapter's property.
Property damage or theft of chapter property should be reported to the Greek Affairs staff in a timely manner.
