Housemothers Club By-laws

The official bylaws of the Kansas State University Housemothers Club

Article I: The organizations shall be called Kansas State University Housemothers Club.

Article II: Objectives

1. To develop friendship among the housemothers.

2. To have an opportunity to exchange ideas. 

3. To discuss problems and solutions of duties of the housemothers.

4. To discuss ways and means of developing better relations among Greek houses. 

Article III: Membership

1. Active membership shall be composed of current housemothers in Greek halls and cooperative housing.

2. Honorary membership shall be composed of:

a. Any past housemother who desires to belong and pay annual dues.

b. Any member of the K-State student life staff.

Article IV: Officers, nominations, elections

1. Term of office is one school year.

2. The officers shall be president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and courtesy chairman, and chaplain.

3. Nominations shall be made by a nominating committee composed of three members, one appointed by the president and two nominated from the floor and voted on. Nomination may also come from the floor.

4. Elections of officers shall be at the April meeting of the club. In the event there are two or more nominated for the office, the vote shall be by secret ballot. A committee appointed by the president shall count the votes.

Article V: Duties of the officers

1. The president shall be the chief officer exercising general supervision over the interest and welfare of the club. She shall:

a. Preside at meetings.

b. Be authorized to call special meeting of the officers.

c. Appoint any special committee deemed necessary for the club as authorized by the officers.

d. Perform such other duties as are customary for the office.

2. The vice president shall:

a. Discharge the duties of the president in the absence of the president.

b. Be responsible for the yearbook with the help of the other officers.

3. The secretary shall:

a. Take the minutes of the meeting and read previous minutes.

b. Call the roll of the members.

4. The treasurer shall:

a. Assure that expenditures of all funds are made with approval of the membership.

b. Collect dues for each member.

5. The courtesy chairman shall:

a. Send a get-well card to sick members and a sympathy card in case of a death in the immediate family. 

6. The chaplain shall:

a. Pray at the beginning of each meeting.

Article VI: Dues

The K-State Housemothers Club shall collect dues from each member of $10 at the first meeting, the expenditure of this fund to be decided by the entire membership.

Article VII: Meetings

The K-State Housemothers Club will meet on the first Tuesday of the month at times and locations to be decided by the officers and hostesses.
