CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The KSU Child Development Center is a nonprofit corporation serving the child care needs of KSU students, faculty, and staff. It is fully licensed by Kansas and is professionally staffed. The environment is designed to foster children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development.
The center offers full-day programs for preschoolers (ages 2½ through 5), and school-age children (ages 5-12). Limited part-time program spaces are offered to families of preschool children who need regular flexible care. Transportation is provided to/from Manhattan public elementary schools.
 
DEAN OF STUDENT LIFE OFFICE
This office is responsible for the Student Governing Association,
student activities, leadership development, the administration of the judicial program for nonacademic misconduct, and off-campus housing. Student activities, Adult Student Services, Religious Affairs, and the International Student Center are supervised and supported by this office. Staff members coordinate assistance to students and families in times of personal crisis and are available to students for general advice, counsel, and assistance with personal problems.
 
ADULT STUDENT SERVICES
The Adult Student Services office specializes in working with older
students to facilitate their transition to university life. The Adult Student Services office serves older adult students, who often have special concerns which can be addressed by the specialized staff. The Adult Student Services office expresses the spirit of renewal and regeneration which reentry students exemplify. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CENTER
The International Student Center provides a comfortable atmosphere
where people wanting to increase their international perspective can find new
friends. Made possible by a private gift, the center includes a multipurpose
meeting room, dining room, kitchen, and reading lounge.
Students from everywhere pass through the center each day, sharing cultures,
traditions, recipes, language lessons, and their common concern for what is
happening in today's world. Everyone is welcome to join in the programs and
activities of the International Student Center and the various international
student organizations.
 
INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING COUNCIL
Kansas State University has nearly 1000 international students from
about 100 countries on campus. More than 15 different international groups
representing different regions of the world are member organizations of the
International Coordinating Council (ICC).
ICC is the campus voice for international students and is formed by
representatives from international groups on campus. ICC sponsors and
co-sponsors different cultural and social programs. ICC organizes an annual
Fall International Night and International Week each Spring. Money allocated by
the Student Senate is distributed by ICC to the different international groups
to help them plan and organize various activities.
 
LAFENE HEALTH CENTER
The Lafene Health Center is a modern ambulatory healthcare facility
designed to provide for most student outpatient health needs. The health center
is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations. Students who have paid the health fee as a part of their tuition
are eligible for care. Non-student spouses, university conference participants,
and other campus visitors may receive care upon payment of a special fee.
Lafene Health Center provides, through a full complement of medical and other
professional personnel, a range of services that include special clinics for
sports-related injuries, women, and allergies and immunizations, as well as a
clinic for general care. Also included are services in health education,
nutrition, and physical therapy. The services of a pharmacy, laboratory, and
x-ray are available at reduced rates.
 
MULTICULTURAL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Emphasis is placed on building strong cultural groups that help
foster the development of leadership skills and roles for multicultural students
on campus; supporting multicultural student organizations, including
Asian-American Students for Intercultural Awareness (ASIA), Black Student Union
(BSU), the Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO), Native American
Student Body (NASB), and other special interest organizations; assisting student
organizations in sponsoring programs and activities that bring multicultural
leaders and role models to K-State; and heightening multicultural awareness
within the community.
 
PHYSICALLY LIMITED STUDENTS/LEARNING DISABLED STUDENTS
This office acts as a liaison with instructors and provides academic,
financial, and vocational counseling. Other support includes interpreters,
notetakers, readers, typing, and errand services. Special arrangements for
taking tests can be arranged through this office. Individualized help with
enrollment is provided.
Special equipment available to students includes a talking computer and
calculator, Kurzweil Reading Machine, variable speed tape recorders, and a TTY.
A shuttle service is available to students with either temporary or permanent
physical limitations.

RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS
Religious life finds expression in 25 student religious organizations
and in approximately 40 congregations in Manhattan. The coordinator
of religious activities provides information regarding religious
activities and organizations as well as pastoral resources in
the community. Pastoral care and counseling are available through
the office of the coordinator of religious activities and by referral
to campus ministers and local clergy. Two chapels on campus, Danforth
and All Faiths, are available for student worship, weddings, and
private meditation.
 
UNIVERSITY COUNSELING SERVICES
Confidential professional counseling is available to all students.
Services include counseling for individuals, couples, and groups and may address
academic, career, or personal concerns. Counselors have expertise in areas such
as overcoming conflicts in relationships; managing stress and enhancing personal
performance; eating disorders, human sexuality; alcohol dependency/codependency;
and coping with crisis. The office also offers periodic workshops on timely
topics.
