Application and Information Form
(US Citizens & Permanent Residents)
To prepare your application for admission to the Graduate School at Kansas State University, separate the attached application blank and fill it out after you have read the information on this page. Make certain that all the required materials requested on this page and on the application are provided.

1. APPLICATION FEE. A fee of $40 U.S. is required
for all U.S. citizen and permanent resident applicants who are applying to a
degree program. Your application will not be considered by the graduate school
until this fee has been received.
**PLEASE NOTE: If applying to graduate programs in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design or the College of Business, additional application fees apply. Refer to program websites for more information.
2. TRANSCRIPTS. Request each college or university where you received your bachelor's degree or completed any advanced course work or degree to send an OFFICIAL transcript directly to the program in which you wish to enroll. These become part of your records at Kansas State University and cannot be returned. Students whose transcripts are not in English must furnish a translation by an appropriate authority. Failure to list any colleges or universities attended may result in dismissal from the University.
3. STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES. If you intend to work toward an advanced degree, write on a separate sheet a discussion of your academic objectives giving specific reasons for the selection of your field of study, contemplated research areas, and professional plans.
4. DEGREE PROGRAMS. Below is a list of masters and doctoral programs offered at Kansas State University. Select one of these programs when identifying the Graduate Program on the application form. If you do not plan to work towards a degree, check Non-Degree Student and indicate the program in which you wish to take course work, and see item 16 on the application form.
5. NONDEGREE STUDENT. If you do not intend to work towards an advanced
degree but you meet entrance requirements, you may be considered for admission
as a nondegree Student. The program in which you plan to take courses must approve
your application for nondegree student admission. You must apply to a degree
program or for permission to continue as a nondegree Student after you have completed
9 hours. No more than 9 hours of work taken in this status may be counted toward
an advanced degree upon the recommendation of your supervisory committee after
you are accepted as a degree student.
Please note that the application fee is waived if you are applying as a nondegree student.
It will be required when/if you apply to a degree program.
6. STANDARDIZED TESTS. If your graduate program requires standardized tests, you should request the Educational Testing Service to send your scores to Kansas State University. If you indicated where you wanted your scores sent (the academic department and Kansas State University) when you took the test, your scores will automatically be sent. The Graduate School does not accept photocopies as official for admission purposes. Standardized test scores are valid for five years. (If available, please include test scores on the application.)
7. PRIMARY LANGUAGE. To demonstrate competence in the English language, an official report of scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System - academic exam (IELTS) must be sent to Kansas State University for all applicants whose primary language is not English.
TOEFL
The TOEFL is offered several times a year throughout the world by the Educational Testing Service, PO Box 6151, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, USA, telephone 609-771-7100 or www.toefl.org. Those who have received a degree in the last two years from a United States college or university are not required to submit a TOEFL score but must take an English proficiency test upon arrival to Kansas State University.
There are three types of TOEFL scores: paper-based TOEFL, computer-based TOEFL and TOEFL IBT (internet-based TOEFL taken in real time). TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the intial test date.
A score of at least 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79 (IBT - internet-based test) on the TOEFL is required to be considered for admission to the Graduate School. (NOTE: Some programs require a TOEFL score higher than stated here.) Applicants with scores of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based) or 100 (IBT - internet based) or above may be considered for regular admission. Applicants with scores between 550/213/79 and 599/249/99 may be admitted provisionally and must at the time of their enrollment demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing English and in understanding spoken American English to the satisfaction of the Graduate School. Those who do not meet the minimum proficiency standard will be required to complete specified courses offered by the English Language Program (ELP) at Kansas State. Intensive English training for students who have TOEFL scores below 550/213/79 is also available through the ELP. IELTS
The International English Language Testing System - academic exam (IELTS) is offered several times a year by the International English Language Testing System, Pasadena, California 91103, USA. Those who have received a degree in the last two years from a United States college or university are not required to submit an IELTS score but must take an English proficiency test upon arrival to Kansas State University.
A score of at least 6.1 is required to be considered for admission to the Graduate School. (NOTE: Some programs require an IELTS score higher than stated here.) Applicants with scores of 7.0 or above may be considered for regular admission. Applicants with scores between 6.1 to 6.9 may be admitted provisionally and must at the time of their enrollment demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing English and in understanding spoken American English to the satisfaction of the Graduate School. Those who do not meet the minimum proficiency standard will be required to complete specified courses offered by the English Language Program (ELP) at Kansas State. Intensive English training for students who have IELTS scores below 6.1 is also available through the ELP. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION. The completed application should be sent to the appropriate academic department, Kansas State University, Manhattan Kansas 66506.
