Stratigraphy is an important part of geology. High school students will learn how to measure a section of a road cut, understand how it is formed, be able to describe it, and understand the types of rocks associated with the road cut.
Evolution and artificial selection. Students design experiments with fruit flies (Drosophila)
Students will learn the definitions of permeability and porosity, and their relation to each other. They will also learn how geologists use the two in everyday work.
This module seeks to introduce students to peer reviewed literature, and asks students to use critical and scientific thinking to evaluate and discuss controversial health issues with their peers.
This module seeks to explore the link between the molecular level and the state of health or disease through the study of protein biochemistry. First, students complete tactile and kinesthetic activities to learn fundamental protein biochemistry. Second, students use computational approaches to better understand two diseases in which protein abnormalities lead to pathophysiology (Alzheimer’s disease and type II diabetes).
Students learn about different types of radiation & scientific processes.
What does "nano" mean?
Concepts from taxonomy and phylogenetics are introduced through activities and brief presentations. Analogies and examples are used to open each module which then proceeds to use examples from Susan’s research. This was designed for a lower level high school biology class.
