Kansas State University’s EIDRoP GK-12 Program:
Evidence-based Inquiry into the Distant, Remote or Past

As “resident scientists,” EIDRoP Fellows bring their research to high school students and communicate the rewards and excitement of scientific research.

Much public misunderstanding of science involves misconceptions regarding the types of evidence accepted within scientific disciplines as well as the manner in which scientists move from evidence to inference. Understanding how available data can provide information about objects or events that cannot be directly experienced or manipulated is particularly challenging to students.

Through EIDRoP, graduate fellows in the biological sciences, geosciences, chemistry and biochemistry and physics work with mentor teachers at Junction City High School (USD 475) to develop, present and lead a series of presentations and activities both to convey specific scientific research and to help students understand the evidential support for the content of that research. Fellows communicate their own research as well as science content and methods in broader disciplinary and interdisciplinary contexts.
