The Geology department offers the B.S. and B.A. degrees in Geology, as well as a Geology Minor. We also offer an Earth Science option for High School Teachers (in conjunction with the College of Education), and collaborate with the Department of Civil Engineering in offering a dual degree. We also have a minor program in Environmental Geophysics, but with our current vacancy in geophysics we have to defer that offering until at least next year.
The Geology Department considers the bachelor's degree to be a core of knowledge in the field, a suitable background for advanced study (in geology or another field), or simply a major part of a liberal arts education. Although it was once considered a sufficient background for a career in geology, many employers today demand more. For this reason we strongly encourage our seniors to continue on, here or at another school, to the master's degree.
