Registration Form for Computer Lab Account

Geography Undergraduate and Graduate Students:

The Computer Teaching Laboratory (Seaton 164L) is now being operated with a server housed in GISSAL.  Generic logins and passwords are no longer valid.  To use the computers you will need to register for an account that will be based upon your K-State EID.  Please fill in the required information in the form below to register for a lab account.  Note that, if enrolled in a geospatial technique class, you will have an account created automatically.  However, that account will be deleted upon completion of the course.

Accessing the Laboratory

The Geography Computer Teaching Laboratory (Seaton 164L) is the department’s primary laboratory facility.  Geography courses, lab sections, and sponsored workshops have priority use of the laboratory during normal business hours.  When a class or lab is in session, non-enrolled students may not use the computers.  The Computer Teaching Laboratory is a high usage facility during normal business hours.  Students should plan their schedules accordingly in order to complete assignments on schedule.  The lab is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Mondays-Fridays.  After hours and during weekends, students must seek out a geography faculty member, graduate student, or one of the janitorial staff to gain access to the lab.

This laboratory is operated and maintained with funds provided only by the Department of Geography and its faculty.

Setting Up and Using your Account

  • The first time you login to a computer, input your K-State EID as the username.
  • The initial password for the first time you login is Geog000! , where 0 represents zeroes.  Note that this password is case sensitive and that the exclamation point is a part of the password.
  • After successfully logging in for the first time, you will be prompted to create a new password that you MUST remember.
  • Your personal password must contain a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, a number, and a character other than a letter or a number (e.g., #, $, @) to be secure.
  • Each student is allocated personal “hard drive” space on a mapped X: drive.  This is the only place that you should save data.  Any other place you save to will be reset and data or any changes will be automatically, and permanently, deleted.
  • All lab computers will reboot themselves after 60 minutes of inactivity.  All data that is not saved in your directory on the X: drive will be lost.

If you have any questions or concerns about the computer laboratory, please contact me (shutch@ksu.edu or 532-3414).

Thank you,
J.M. Shawn Hutchinson
