Steve White

I continue my duties as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, a position I have held since February 2002. I frequently experience symptoms associated with the classroom withdrawal syndrome and my research is almost as extinct as the dinosaurs. However, I am enjoying my role as a dean. Although my contact with the department is more limited these days, I do continue to go to geography social functions, attend visiting speaker presentations and check my departmental mailbox.

Our oldest son Eric married Shirly Lee on the Stanford University campus last October. Eric and Shirly live in San Mateo, California. Our son Ben returned to Manhattan last year and is pursuing his master's degree in geography under the supervision of Jeff Smith. Last summer Susan and I avoided the August heat in Kansas by spending some time in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. Our only other travel experiences involved professional meetings and trips to Kentucky to visit family.
