General Meeting Minutes

1) Officer Reports

    a) Leslie

        i) presents the program idea of escorting female Muslims, but due to cultural traditions, only female volunteers can be used.

2) Upcoming IF Events

    a) September 24th - Lunch and talk with the Heartland Humanists, a Kansas City-based group.

    b) Free Thought Week - week before Halloween

        i) speech of origins of Halloween

        ii) superstition bash wherein IF members flout the Gods of superstition, e.g. opening umbrellas indoors, etc.

        iii) fundraiser: soul auction. People agree to "sell soul" in order to work for a local charity

        vi) Sinners and Saints costume party

        v) October 20th IF part at Paul's place

    c) VOTE: Religiously incorrect was voted to be postponed until November.

    d) Tim Dayton, KSU professor, will speak sometime in the future on Marxism and Religion

    e) Spring Semester: Evolution debate

    f) Fire walk idea nixed due to legal problems, logistics, etc.

3) Flyer Thefts

a) All IF members are encouraged to combat flyer theft by posting IF posters in conspicuous places across campus. However, some places require permission to post and do not leave more than one poster on a bulletin board. We want to make our presence known, but we don't want to irritate anyone.

    b) Banner idea in Collegian: Will we be able to post it up?

    c) New flyer idea proposed by Jeff: include "Though shall not steal," at the bottom.

4) Alternative Collegian Idea Discussed

    a) List of reasons why we need an alternate to collegian discussed

        i) E.g., Onion-esque, ludicrous front page article on a 7-year-old's opinion of U.S. foreign policy.

    b) Questions/ Concerns

        i) online paper at first

        ii) daily paper impossible

        iii) ideas for inserting IF paper between collegians until the authorities hound us.

        vi) possible names: The Dingo, the Editorial, The Skeptic
