Individuals for Freethought
General Meeting Minutes
8/23/00

14 people present
Meeting duration = 60 minutes

1) Debate
   a) The "Is the Bible Infallible?" debate with Robert Price is set
      for November 16th.
2) IF Cookout
   a) The next cookout will be Saturday, August 26th starting at 4:00
      PM. All-nighters are welcome.
   b) The site will be Shelter #22 in the Spillway Marina area at
      Tuttle Creek Lake.
   c) If you are able to bring anything to eat, please e-mail Nexx and
      let him know.
3) Hunger Site Dinner
   a) There was a long discussion whether or not the dinner is too far
outside of IF's scope or not. In the end, we took a vote, and
the majority of people were in favor of having the dinner.
   b) Paige said that September 18th is a good date to have it on.
   c) The setup:
      i) We will have about 50 tickets (for 50 people) to the dinner
         that we will sell.
ii) The food will be distributed like it is in real life (e.g.,
66% of the people will eat rice and dirty water, and so on).
iii) Half of the profits from ticket sales will go to IF; half
         will go to charity.
   d) Things we still need to do:
      i) We need to find a building to hold the event in (preferably
one that won't cost us money).
ii) We would like to get some press time from the Collegian.
iii) The idea was brought up to schedule a guest speaker.
Someone mentioned talking to a KSU Economics professor about
this. (NOTE: Dr. Gorman is the name that I have written down,
though this person does not exist according to the KSU
Economics homepage. There is a Dr. Gormely, however. Is this
         the person?)
4) Soul Auction
   a) The general idea: people will volunteer to sell their souls, and
we will invite church groups to come and bid on them to raise
      some money for IF.
   b) It was mentioned that there should be a minimum bid of $5.00 per
      soul.
   c) Tentatively, the soul auction is scheduled for late October.
   d) We still need to get an auctioneer.
   e) Paul collected a list of names of those present who were
      interested in selling their souls.
   f) We need to talk to Charlie Clack about being the makeshift devil
to help push up the prices.
5) Activities Carnival
   a) It will be held on August 24th.
   b) John Franson, Jeff Bishop, and Tom Clarke have volunteered to be
at the IF booth for a few hours in the evening (to hand out
pamphlets and talk to anyone interested in our group).
6) T-Shirts
   a) Paige showed us a preliminary design for the next IF T-shirts.
   b) The shirts will be orange and will include a yellow smiley face
that has the words "There is no hell" under it. The organization
name and our Web address will also be included on the shirt.
   c) We plan to have them for sale at the beginning of the spring
      2001 semester.
