Flute & Trumpet Day

Information

The KSU Flute & Trumpet Day is in Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 10:00-3:30pm in McCain Auditorium and Chapman Theatre in Nichols Hall.  It is free to all high school flute and trumpet students. Be sure to register at the link below to reserve your spot!

Schedule of Events:

9:30 - Registration (Kirmser Hall)

10:00 - Welcome (Kirmser Hall)

10:15 - Warmups (Trumpets in 201, Flutes in Kirmser)

11:00 - Combined Flute and Trumpet Ensemble (Chapman Theatre)

11:30 - Separate Trumpet and Flute Ensembles (Trumpets in Kirmser, Flutes in Chapman Theatre)

12:00 - Lunch

1:00 - Solo and Ensemble Performances (Kirmser) / K-State Students Present "Studying Music in College" (McCain 105)

2:00 - Guest Artist Clinic (Flutes in 105, Trumpets in 135)

3:00 - Final Concert - All participants perform! (The final concert will be in the Chapman Theatre in Nichols Hall)

Guest Artists

John Bailey

johnbailey Dr. John Bailey is Richard H. Larson Distinguished Professor of Music and a member of the Moran Woodwind Quintet, resident faculty quintet at the Glenn Korff School of Music. He is principal flutist with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, with which he has appeared as concerto soloist on numerous occasions, most recently in Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5.  Since 2005 he is also Director of UNL's annual summer Chamber Music Institute.

He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, where he studied with James Pellerite. Both his masters and doctorate were earned at Northwestern University, where he was assistant to Walfrid Kujala. He also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria, with Louis Rivière, piccoloist of the Vienna Philharmonic. From 1982 to 1996, he was program annotator for the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria, where he was also co-principal flutist with the festival's orchestra.

 

 

 

Nicholas Ciulla

Nicholas Ciulla joined the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in 2015 and is currently serving as Assistant Principal Trumpet.  Prior to his position in the ASO, Nicholas was as doctoral student of Dr. Christopher Moore at Florida State University. He completed his Masters Degree in Trumpet Performance at Wichita State University while serving as Dr. David Hunsicker’s Graduate Teaching Assistant. While in Wichita, Nicholas was Second Trumpet in the Wichita Symphony as well as a member of the Wichita State Faculty Brass Quintet. He completed his Bachelors of Music degree at Baldwin-Wallace University, while studying with Jack Sutte, second trumpet in the Cleveland Orchestra.  While not on stage with the ASO, Nicholas can be found obnoxiously cheering for his favorite sports teams or walking his nine-pound white poodle, Liffey, with his wife Siobhán.
