Researcher needed for conservation of fishes in Grand Canyon

I will be looking for a researcher to evaluate competition between non native (trout) and native fishes (suckers) in Bright Angel Creek in Grand Canyon National Park.  This position will likely start in summer 2010.  The person may be a MS student, research associate, or post doctoral associate, and the selection will be strongly based on fit to the position.  The project will work very closely with cooperators (Grand Canyon National Park, US Fish and Wildlife Service) and other agency biologist in remote settings.  Duties will include backpack electrofishing, diet and stable isotope analysis, and invertebrate sampling and analysis.  The idea candidate will have demonstrated ability to work in remote settings, interest in applied research to help conservation agencies, and work well as part of a team.  Please contact me if you may be interested.

Technicians

The lab typically hires several summer technicians each year.  The number varies on the number of projects, but is typically 2-5.  In addition, some of these people stay on during the school year part time.  Most of these positions require intensive field work, but also include various lab work and data entry.  My graduate students supervise these technicians so contact them directly to discuss possible job opportunities.

If I have funding for a new graduate student I typically advertise for graduate research assistantships through the American Fisheries Society.  However, highly competitive applicants may qualify of graduate teaching assistantships in the Division of Biology at K-State.   The possible projects would fit my research interests in applied fisheries science and management.

The deadline for applications is January 15 (fall) and August 1(Spring).  Details can be found at:
