Intelligent Mail Barcode on the Horizon

In keeping with their technology upgrades over the past several years, the USPS has done it again. They have developed "The Intelligent Mail Barcode" that allows them to capture information about the mail piece as it flows through their system. It combines the data of the present barcodes, as well as some new data, into one single barcode. Here is how it can be of help to you the customer.

  • Identifies the owner or sender of the mailpiece
  • Identifies the mailpiece or mail aggregate to allow for tracking
  • Allows us to encode products or service requests on individual mailpieces, or to include unique indicators for processing mail aggregates
  • Provides sorting and/or routing information

More information will continue to be announced by Central Mail Services as we continue to research and weigh the options provided to us by the USPS. Our goal is always to provide the most efficient and the most cost effective solution for KSU as a whole. Questions may be addressed by emailing Connie at sissy@ksu.edu or by calling her at 2-7751.

Forever Stamp

The Liberty Bell image and the word "forever," are featured on the stamp that will be good for mailing one-ounce First-Class letters anytime in the future — regardless of price changes.

In addition to the Forever stamp the USPS will continue to offer many commemorative stamps again this year.

The following is a link to the stamp program that will be available for the 2008 stamp program:

http://www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/2008stamps/

The postal service will also issue most of the price-change stamps in advance of the May 12th increase. The Contract Post Office will carry them as they are made available.
