Contract Post
Office Corner
With school back in session the contract post office,
located at the west end of Dykstra Hall, welcomes faculty, staff and students
back to K-State. We would like to remind departmental staff to encourage their
new faculty, staff, and students to use the postal facility here on campus. We
are provided as a service to the university community.
The contract post office offers a complete line of postage
stamps and services. We accept domestic letters and packages weighing up to 70
pounds. We offer special services such as Registered, Certified, Insured,
Delivery and Signature Confirmation, and domestic Money Orders. As well as most
international services including Express mail, Priority International mail, and
First Class International mail, for both letters and parcels.
In addition to these services we
have a full line of envelopes, padded mailers, boxes and tape.
Methods of payment accepted are
Credit and Debit cards, cash, checks, and postal money orders.

DORM STUDENT MAIL
Central Mail Service receives quite a few questions about
campus mail going to dorm students from departments on campus. I am addressing this issue in our September
newsletter hoping to make you (the departments) aware of how to handle student
mail and hoping I can impact the students when they are addressing their campus
mail. If you have questions please contact Connie at 532-7751.
PLEASE COPY & POST on your bulletin boards throughout
your building.
ADDRESSING
Proper addressing of your incoming mail will assure
you of quick delivery directly to your dorm by the United States Postal
Service.
Your address should
read:
YOUR NAME
ROOM NUMBER & BUILDING NAME
CAMPUS MAIL
Only official university business is allowed through Central Mail Services (i.e.
note to advisor).
This mail should be
placed in a brown campus envelope and addressed to:
ADVISOR'S NAME
DEPARTMENT
BUILDING
This assures you that your mail will not require any
delays because of bad addressing.
Students paying
telecom, parking or any other campus bill is considered university business and
does not need postage. You may use the envelopes that accompany the bill.
DELIVERY TIMES
Campus mail is delivered twice a day to the university departments and
once a day to the dorms.
We have four mail
routes that are staggered.
·
Morning
routes:
Two routes leave at
·
Afternoon
routes:
Two routes leave at
Campus mail has a
twenty four hour turn a round if it is addressed correctly. If it is mailed in
the morning, it will be delivered in the afternoon. If it is mailed in the
afternoon, it will be delivered in the following morning.
PERSONAL
MAIL
(i.e.
mail going from one student in a dorm to another student in a dorm) is PROHIBITED through CMS. You must place
a stamp on this mail and send it through the United States Postal Service.
Mail
Preparation Tips
Here is a list of simple tips for creating efficiency at
the mailbox and to help your mail arrive at its destination without delay.
·
Separate mail by campus, stamped, and metered. Place in the proper
slot in your campus mail box.
·
Sort mail for departments within your building directly into the
proper departmental drawer.
·
Unsealed letter-size metered mail should have the flaps up. Rubber
band together by postage work order number. Note: All departments must have
their postage work order number on each piece of mail, whether it is printed or
handwritten, in order to achieve the discount for automation mail (one &
two ounce letters marked for “Automation”).
·
All department mail should be properly addressed by name,
department, and building.
·
All dorm student mail should be addressed with the student’s name,
room number and dorm name. It may be placed in a campus style envelope to
indicate it is internal mail.
Call Central Mail at
2-7751 for mail tubs or trays and lids for any large mailing of campus,
stamped, or metered mail.

Campus
Mail Large and Small Envelopes
Central Mail Services gets
requests every day for empty campus mail envelopes. If you help us to recycle
these envelopes we can fill these requests. All you have to do is rubber band
the empty envelopes that you would like to send to Central Mail Service and put
a note on the bundle and place them on top of your campus mail box and the
carrier will pick them up for you. Also, if you have extra mail tubs or trays
that you are not going to need you may place those at the mailbox to be picked
up. If you have questions please contact Connie at 2-7751.

Stamp Return Cycle
Have you ever wondered if
out-of-date stamps can be exchanged for current stamps? The answer is yes. We
are currently in a stamp return rotation to dispose of out of date stamps. We
have a few restrictions on what we can accept. One restriction is that the
stamps may only be exchanged for stamps, not cash. If you would like to see if
the stamps you have qualify for the return cycle contact Nancy at the KSU
Contract Post Office at 2-6306.
