Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Assistant Vice President is to support the fundamental academic mission of the University through the administration of programs and services designed to provide and promote educational opportunities for all students (HEA 1965). More specifically the office works to increase the retention, matriculation, and graduation rates of low-income/first-generation students, physically/mentally challenged students, and student traditionally under-represented in Higher Education. The office has a wide range of programs, starting with First Tee and Gear Up (middle school intervention), to the McNair Scholars Program (graduate level focus). The of fice receives nearly 2.0 million external dollars annually, and has begun to duplicate these programs on the K-State Salina campus.

Goals

To provide college preparation and awareness activities to low-income students in middle school.

To generate skill and motivation in selected high school students necessary for success in education beyond secondary school.

To increase college retention and graduation rates for eligible students, to increase the transfer rates of students from 2 year to 4 year institutions, and to foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low-income/first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities.

To provide disadvantaged college students with effective preparation for doctoral study

To assist youth, locally and nationally, who are traditionally under-represented in the game of golf, in developing strong leadership, life skills, an appreciation for post-secondary education, and career opportunities in the golf industry.
