Meeting Minutes From Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

“Last SEA Meeting of Semester”

Outgoing President Becky Clark gave a tearjerking speech about her years of involvement and many memories, how she loves SEA and hopes returning members will continue to strengthen the club in future semesters. Outgoing Medicine Man Rylan Ortiz had no additional comment, but I am sure he shares the same sentiments.

Let’s give a big thanks to these guys. They are great leaders and destined for great things.

New Prez Megan Bindel started off with a few addressing comments for next year:

-First of all, member attendance/participation at SEA events is SHAMEFUL! We need more consistent support from our members…Earth Week…come on people! Poor attendance was also demonstrated by the majority of next year’s officers being absent for their Inauguration. Way to go Rachel, Slinky, Matt, and Tom. There will be no excuses next year!

-Group members offered suggestions for next semester- mostly about continuing to make new members feel welcome and aid in getting to know each other better. Informal circular desk arrangements will continue, as will introductions, etc… ASAP following the Activities Carnival, we will have an SEA campout to begin or continue building friendships with new and old members.

-Newly Inaugurated Medicine Man Jeff Stilley will more than likely be in charge of bringing environmentally related articles to meetings to pass around, since he will be reading the NY Times anyway…

-Most importantly, anyone and everyone is encouraged to share ideas or start pet projects (i.e. the book club)…you don’t need to be on a committee or anything- it’s all good! We are known for being an active club and that is a positive attribute.

IMPORTANT EVENTS- bust out that planner right now

Take Back the Night: Supporting women against violence. Women’s March begins this Thursday April 26th at 8pm from the Quad on campus. SEA tabling to follow around 9pm (not sure where, prolly in the Union). Everyone says this is a really cool night…I’m going even though I have a test Fri morning.

Craft Party this Saturday April 28th at the Beckster’s 312 N 15th St. Starts at 2pm and goes until we are too tanked to crochet bags anymore (proper drinking procedure @ Becky’s includes bringing a reusable cup and $5). Come and go as you please. Please bring anything you think will be helpful in a craft project. Staples include old clothes, used dryer sheets, magnets, magazines, plastic grocery bags, cool bottle caps, tons of used paper, and cool cardboard food or beverage boxes. Also don’t forget to bring scissors and crochet hooks if you have them…can never have enough of those.

The Konza Festival (bluegrass music??) in Aggieville and City Park is also going on this Saturday so check it out if your hands get tired from crocheting bags at Becky’s Craftay Partay. For more information, look on nearby lightpole around Manhattan or on campus.

“Living as if the Future Matters,” by Ken Warren, Director of the Land Institute. Wednesday May 2nd 6:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth.

What: CANOE TRIP!!!!!!!!!
When: Saturday May 5th all afternoon/evening
Why: Stress buster before finals week…IT’S AWESOME
Where: On the KS river and Blue River
Cost: The more people we get, the less it costs to rent canoes!

---Canoe trips are the only time we condone having big trucks, so if you have one, we need to borrow it to haul a trailer of canoes. Let Megan Bindel know!

Okay that is all. By the way, the Green Festival this past weekend in Chicago was mindblowing. Twelve of us went and we all benefited from the experience. Kevin Danaher gave the keynote speech, taking a quote from Ghandi…he said outright that OUR MESSAGE IS HOW WE LIVE OUR LIVES. Chew on that this summer!

Adios! Don’t expect my minutes to be this incredible next semester…I’m just a little excited today.
