Frequently Asked Questions
What types of students visit the Writing Center?
All kinds. Some are very experienced writers, looking for expert advice. Others are still trying to understand the writing process and are looking for assistance at a more basic level. Most are working to improve both their writing skills and their writing assignments.

Who are the Writing Center tutors?
Our tutors are experienced readers and responders, people who can help you during your writing process. They are also writing instructors who have taught the Expository Writing I and II curriculums and are familiar with teachers' expectations and how to meet those expectations.

What is the difference between enrolling in Writing Lab (ENGL 030) and signing up for a walk-in appointment?
Enrollment in Writing Lab is limited to those students enrolled in Expository Writing I or II, but all undergraduate students can sign-up for walk-in help. Writing Lab students receive regular, weekly assistance with their writing. Walk-in appointment students can sign up any time during the semester for a thirty-minute session.

How can I determine whether I should enroll in Writing Lab (ENGL 030) or use walk-in appointments?
Writing Lab, which is a two-hour credit course based on attendance, is probably right for you if you need regular, weekly assistance with your Expository Writing assignments. If you plan to seek help only a couple times a semester, then the walk-in appointments may be more suitable for your needs.

If I enroll in Writing Lab (ENGL 030), can I sign up for walk-in appointments?
As the semester progresses, the walk-in slots fill up fast, so we ask that enrolled Writing Lab students not sign up for walk-in appointments. Depending on space availability, Writing Lab students may be able to visit the Writing Center during another Writing Lab time to receive additional assistance.

Can I drop off my paper for editing?
The Writing Center offers one-on-one assistance with writing assignments. We do not offer drop-off editing services.
