Irene Ward, Ph.D. U of South Florida in 1992, specialized in teaching writing at the college level, writing program administration, composition and rhetorical theory. The Allyn & Bacon Source book for Writing Program Administration (co-edited with William J. Carpenter of Lafayette College), published in 2002, is a collection of articles and new materials for those that administer college-level writing programs. Ward contributed a chapter on healthy management styles for WPAs and co-authored (with Merry Perry) another chapter on training teaching assistants. In 1998 Columbia U P published Literary Theory in the Age of the Internet (co-edited with Todd Taylor). It is a collection of articles by some of the most progressive voices in literacy studies who attempt to reconsider what it means to be literate in the information age. Ward has published in WPA: Writing Program Administrator, JAC, and regularly presents papers at the Conferences on College Composition and Communication Convention.

Her teaching interests and responsibilities include rhetoric and composition theory, argumentative writing, writing pedagogy, technical and business communication, feminist rhetorical approaches to writing and reading, and drama.
